New BF Members

What's with all the hostility from the new members? I see a lot of users with join dates in Aug. and Sept. getting PO'd when they don't receive the answers they're looking for and also jumping all over other members for wisecracks or criticism.

I haven't been here very long but these 'bootcamps' obviously missed Tom's sticky.

In many cases this hostility also has to stem from the treatment the old members give the newbs... I am sure that what is often meant to be funny can easily get misconstrued due to this mediums lack of ability of transmitting all those important non verbal cues.

So what we should do is change this into a video forum. We all take a video of what we want to say, post it, and then we can convey the complete message instead of the just the words.

Of course, the storage requirements for the forum would require about 500TB.

You're right, of course, but I have seen some bizarre, knee-jerk flamings from out of nowhere...I can dig up the evidence if it helps to illustrate.

But the existing members tend to assume that a noob has the good sense to spend some time getting to know the flavor and tone of the forums (and lacking a FAQ, perhaps using the search function a bit or, lord forbid, reading Tom's sticky in this case) before running off at the mouth or getting offended by 'normal' responses. I mean this has been a basic concerning online communities since online communities came into existence. RTFM!

Winds are out of the northeast, so if you ride that way you'll have a tailwind going home. Oh wait, I forgot, you can't swim.

I dont believe in that. Forums may have different 'flows' but if a member has a question they have a question. Who says you need to be initiated first?
