    Boring "Town Hall" meetings

Okay, so we apparently had a big corporate guy in here for a town hall meeting yesterday at 3pm, and nobody from my group attended. So, we got a steaming email from our manager this morning that, from now on, attendance at these meetings is mandatory, barring prior excuse from him for emergencies.

Suck... these things are always at 3 in the afternoon, run an hour over time, leaving me to go home in 5pm rush hour. I wonder if I can make the argument that attending these meetings would be a threat to my health and safety as a result of my rush-hour departure time on a bicycle.

    probably not...

We have town hall meetings at my workplace too. Resistance is futile. You just have to stand in line and drink the koolaid with everyone else. There is management pressure to attend (it can be reflected on your review) but the company has become a little more clever and has started bribing employees with food and door prizes to attend.

The email I got this morning (that was sent to the entire group, mind you) stopped short of threatening termination for non-attendance.

"...lack of attendance reflects poorly on our location when upper management is making global staffing decisions..."

Yeah... I'd call that "management pressure"
