Baja 1000

Should I go? I have a friend that lives in San Diego and has a couple Yamaha 600s we could ride down and check out the action. Sounds like a fun time.

Also, is a Drivers License good enough to get back into the U.S. or do I really now need a passport?

Also, maybe Cbad could show me how to "body surf"

if you want to come back, you might want a passport.

I believe you need a passport for Mexico now.

The waves are perfect for body surfing. Do you prefer a wetsuit or skinsuit?

Are they really doing that now? I haven't been out of the country in years, but when I was last in Mexico, we didn't even show IDs...

Actually it looks like they postponed the passport requirement until next year:

Travel by land or sea
Currently, US citizens entering and leaving Mexico by land or sea must present either a passport OR a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate. As of June 1, 2009 those traveling by land or sea will be required to present a passport or other WHTI compliant ID such as a passport card.

See, there's these things called "terrorism" and "illegal immigration" that a bunch of people are all miffed about.

hey if we tell UA he doesn't need a passport and he believes us... it could make for a good story.

Looks like if you fly, you'll need one to get back into the U.S.; land or by sea passport or government ID. June 2009 - need a passport

There's guys who will get you back into the U.S. with no problems. You just have to deliver a small package for them.

The Baja is one of those things everyone needs to see.

On a somewhat related note, anyone seen "Dust to Glory"? Awesome movie.

I go there a few times a year.

You only need DL and birth cert or passport. They like passport better, even if expired. The border man said they prefer it.

Yeah, I was down in Texas last month and needed either passport or ID+birth certificate to get back. Just came back from Canada last week and definitely needed passport to get through customs.
