Community theatre sucking my life

I've been directing a community theatre production for a month and a half now. We opened up this past Thursday.

In our first two nights, we saw more people than the first three nights saw last year.

Past volunteers have been coming out of the woodwork after hearing good things about this production.

Best part is, the kids are totally into it. They're doing really, really well. I'm amazingly proud of them.

I do miss having a life, though. That'll come back soon...I hope!

Yup. As ex-sound director for my high school plays, I understand the lack of life you have. I remember spending 18 hours at school and not seeing my parents for over a week. I would always wake up before them to get to school and they would be in bed before I got home. But it was fun.

Good luck with the rest of the plays.

Congratulations! What show? I'm in the middle of a five week run of a production of My Fair Lady at a professional theater in the Philadelphia suburbs. I'm playing doublebass.

(And when I say "in the middle of," I mean it literally. I'm posting this from the pit during a book scene!)

Hickey, I remember the long days of college classes and then hours of rehearsals for the recital of opera scenes!

Febs, it's a play I actually wrote for this place. It's a unique theatre... www.valleymoon.info is the basic information on it. I've been volunteering there for 10 years (as of this show, actually!).

Hang in there, man!

I know how you feel; my commute and work hours, plus training, newspaper photography on Saturdays and a Sweet 16 in the making pretty much close every gap I can have on my social life.

The job and commute will end in December, so it's only a matter of time...and I think it is for you too.

Thats so exciting, congrats! Despite it being a bit stressful, you're doing something so rewarding with your time, and thats amazing! (And makes the time you get to relax after it all even more rewarding)

Wow, very cool! I'm sure by the end of it all, those hours spent will be plenty worth the result. It sounds like you are already reaping the rewards.

I figured. I was just saying I remember my college days.

Thanks, Lauren, Heather, and Crassic.

I actually decided to see if I could turn a small profit... I just offered to take photos of the kids and give them a web-sized image for free. Prints at a discounted rate with some of the profits going back to the theatre. Have had two parents say they're interested!
