    It was a good day

This morning I had a follow up visit with my doctor(because of back pain). Just over a month ago I tweaked my back while leaning over to do the dishes. I took it easy for a few days and the pain seemed to subside some.

Then came my vacation. Attending Interbike was all I had planned(I live near Las Vegas) for the week. The first day of the demos went well, with little pain. On the second day I tried some TT bikes (Cervelo P3, Look 596, Kuota Kueen-K, and a Ridley Dean)and all went well, and I was having a great time. I had some lunch with the guys from my shop, and returned to try a few more bike.

I went over to the Specialized booth to try out their TT bike, and everything went horribally wrong. While getting fitted for the Transition, my back said enough. It started to hurt badly so I went over to the Felt booth for some liquid painkiller(fre beer) and chips and salsa form Chipotle.

The next three days of the show was at the Sands Convention Center. My back was hurting a lot when I would sit, but walking and standing seemed to ease the pain, so I toughed it out and went to the show instead of staying home and resting it. Everyday was the same thing, walk around all day taking photos and go to some race/party at night, then return home for about 4 hours of sleep before doing it all over the next day.

By the end of my vacation I was toasted, and my back was really killing me. The pain was running down my leg and my left foot was numb. I needed to take some time off from work to see a doctor, and get some badly needed rest.

My GP had retired a year ago, so I needed to find a new one. A friend recomended his doctor, so I went to see him. It turns out that he's an avid cyclist(and a really nice guy). he examined me and diagnosed that I have a bulged S1 disc and prescribed some painkillers, Gabapentin, Ibuprofen, and rest(light duty at work). He also ordered some blood tests, because I'm getting to be that age.

Today was my follow up visit and I got my results from the blood tests. My back is doing much better, and the rest of me is is in great shape . My blood pressure is 119 over 69, resting heart rate of 48, and my cholesterol is 131. He asked me if I'd been riding much, I told him I hadn't been on a bike in over a month. He told me to try it if I feel up to it,

Well long story short(if it's possible at this point) I tried ridining a bike today and my back felt great. almost no more pain, and I'm getting feeling back in my left foot.

A few weeks ago I sold my mountain bike to a friend, so today I bought something to fill it's spot on my boat.

After looking through all the brochures at my LBS and not finding anything like the bike I wanted, I went online and found this at Bikesdirect.com

My shop ordered some normal brake levers, a stainless King water bottle cage, and some new SPDs for me today. In about a week It'll be ready to go.

Glad to hear about your check up, sorry to hear about your back. Pain sucks.

I want a cross bike. Not sure, why, but I want one.

Cross bike is on my list as the next purchase. Want to try the cyclo races we've developed the last couple years.

Thanks. I've hurt my back before(about 2 years of real pain) so I was getting really depressed thinking I might have to go through that again.

I just sold my mountain bike a few weeks ago because it was getting a bit long in the tooth(and it doesn't work too well on the local terrain), leaving me with an empty spot on my boat. I'll prolly sell my BFGB IRO as well, and use the CX bike for a grocery getter. I'll get some front panniers, and a rear trunk rack, and still have a bunch of $$ leftover from selling both bikes.

Any ideas on what racks I should get? I don't want to spend a boatload on them, but around $150 would be about right.

I do not own any racks, so I cannot help you there. I would search the commuter forum or maybe car free forums for input.
