Woke up to an earthquake this morning.

It only measured at 5.1 but it woke me up at 2:27 by moving my bed and house around. Nothing broken and I went right back to sleep.

When I got up I asked my son if he was roused up by it and he never even knew it occured. But the news confirmed the quake and all is well.

They can be quite fun, really.

I think if you live for a length of time in California you just get used to them, and can tell when they're going to be bad enough to get out of bed.

I'm always amazed when one happens while I'm at work. All of the "old Californians" get under doorways while the newbies run to the big plate glass windows to look outside.

Standing under the doorway is way past over. Not a good thing to do, look for a place that will make a small livable space to stay in until help comes. Like right next to a sofa, laying longways beside it. This way big falling things like ceilings can rest on the sofa and lay above you. I have this stupid tall bed that would make a living space for a family of 12. It would have to be a close family or some really infatuated friends.

That's true, but at my work the doorways are the best places to be since we all have these cheesy cheap cubicle desks that would immediately collapse if something fell on them.

That's why I live in Florida (I guess it wasn't really my choice though).

Meh, I'd rather a small earthquake than a tropical storm. I haven't felt the last few earthquakes we've had here.

Mind you I'd rather not be Christchurch when the Alpine Fault goes. Or in Wellington when it's fault line ruptures.

Yeah, I've lived all my life in the Pacific Ring of Fire (Japan, Philippines, CA) and I'm so used to earthquakes that during the last one I was on Foo, posting about it as my bookcase wobbled about.

I live in Texas... no earthquakes here... its the twisters that get you.

I think tornados have some sort of AI... why is it that they always find the trailer parks?

I caught it. At the same time, that has always been my philosophy. I would rather have some warning of impending doom than be surprised while I'm sitting on the crapper.
