Urgent grammar question - inquiry or enquiry?

I'm writing out a job application and it has to be in ASAP and I need to know the difference between (and when to use) inquiry vs enquiry. My way of thing is the govt has an enquiry into say taxes where as I might have an inquiry at the post office as to when my letter will get to it's destination. Is this right?

Inquiring minds want to know here, enquiring minds want to know in England.

I assume you are in Australia.
In England (and perhaps Australia), 'enquiry' is used to ask a question and 'inquiry' is used for an investigation.
In the U.S., 'inquiry' is used for both.

On my Mac, ctrl-cmd-D and hovering over each word gave me:

For Inquiry: noun An act of asking for information.

For Enquiry: noun; chiefly Brit. Another term for Inquiry.

Perhaps, since you must inquire regarding their appropriate use, this is not the job for you?

I generally use the Merriam-Webster Unabridged on-line dictionary, and it says...

Main Entry: enquire
variant of INQUIRE

The Merriam-Webster Unabridged Collegiate dictionary says...

Main Entry: en·quire, en·qui·ry

chiefly British variant of INQUIRE, INQUIRY

Not sure if you were trying to be sarcastic or not but if I was a potential employer and I received an application with spelling or grammatical errors I would throw it straight in the bin, hence my original question. Thanks everyone for your help.
