Smokers..................blargh

Smokers......figh1. Yeah, they piss me off. If you wanna ruin your life by puffin on some plant, fine. But don't expose me to that same ****. If you wanna smoke, go smoke in your car with the windows rolled up. But for the love of whatever-higher-power-you-believe-in, STOP SMOKING AROUND ME!!!! They are outside of every single flippin building, puffin away like they own the place. I'm allergic to tobacco smoke. I start hacking uncontrollably after being exposed to tobacco smoke.

I think it's time to start carrying a good supply of water balloons around campus......

It's not truly second hand smoke unless it's exchanged while french kissing.

Guess you'll need to start lobbying your state legislature to allow smoking in buildings again. Then all those smokers will smoke inside and won't bother you when you're riding.

I wouldn't kiss any girl, regardless of how hawt she is, if she smokes. I can't even stand sitting next to someone who smoke. I can smell it all over them and it makes me hack.

+10000000000000000000000

I get asthma fits when I inhale too much tobacco smoke. And boy, there are a LOT of smokers on campus, hanging around the entrances of buildings, even if the law states that you can't bloody smoke within 20ft of any building entrance and operable window (in CA anyway, dunno about other states).

Quite honestly, I'd like more enforcement of that law here. I understand people's need to get high on nicotine or whatever, but not when I get sick because of it.

I used to date a heavy smoker (he's European). Interesting how clueless he was about how bad the secondhand smoke:

- He thought I minded the smell, nothing else (it affected my sleep and appetite, not to mention the long-term effects)

- He thought it would be good enough if he went out on the balcony and shut the screen door but left the glass door open

- He thought (and I believe still thinks) that if he hangs out of the window in a non-smoking hotel room, nobody will notice.

Nasty stuff. I'm done with that.

They don't bother me when I'm riding because I don't ride near any public buildings. Yes, believe it or not, there is a life other than cycling (say, getting an edumecation so I can get a good job so I get lots of $$ so I can buy lots of schwag) and the smokers are pissin me off.

As a former smoker, let me weigh in on this one...

You've already driven them off the airplanes, out of restaurants, bars, pool halls, concert venues; oh, that's right: ALL PUBLIC BUILDINGS. Now you're complaining that they're smoking where you told them to go: Outside.

It sucks that you're allergic to tobacco smoke, but quit ruining it for everyone who likes to smoke. You're whining as bad as the parents of kids with peanut allergies.

How the heck does a peanut allergy relate to smoking? EVERYONE is affected by smokers. Peanut allergies only affect a small proportion of the population. That analogy makes no sense. I have every right to complain when smokers are endangering everyone's health.

And if you make the choice to smoke, then you accept that there are going to be consequences and limitations. YOU made the choice to smoke. Everyone else couldn't make the choice to immune to the affects of cig smoke.

You do realize that the EPA report on second hand smoke, the one that all the anti-smoking legislation is based on, was a meta-analysis of existing studies in which they hand-picked the data that supported the conclusion that they made before the study even began, right?

Walking through cigarette smoke on your way into a building, while unpleasant for many, isn't endangering everyone's health.

I've never smoked nor had any desire to, yet cigarette smoke doesn't bother me at all. But old cigarettes left in a car smell horrible.

Links? Solid sources?

So what you're saying is that the smoke that kills smokers has no effect on non-smokers? I'm calling a big BS on this one. It DOES have a negative effect on everyone.

You're allergic to cigarette smoke. You're not speaking for the health concerns of everyone on campus, you're complaining because you don't like walking past the crowd of smokers outside the doorway. You're rallying to force a group of people who have chosen a completely legal product into whatever encapsulated, isolated corral you've envisioned so you don't have to deal with their choice.

Peanuts are a lethal allergen to some children (about 2% of kids have at least a mild allergy to some type of nuts these days). Because of this, the other 98% of students at many schools are not allowed to bring in any food containing peanuts. No PB&J sandwiches. No Snickers. Not even a single peanut M&M.

Until you organize a campus group or circulate a petition, it's just you whining about the smokers. Same as the 1 kid with an allergy forcing the whole school to ban peanuts.

More and more cities around here (southern California) are outlawing smoking in outdoor public areas.

I put the fault on smokers. They have to realize by now that people don't care for smelling smoke. If they continue to smoke in areas frequented by non-smokers, the laws will just get more and more severe. They can show a little consideration, such as not congregate around office door entries.

I have to say this smoking is a choice like many other things in life, you cannot violate others choices. I am sorry you are allergic to the smoke, however in the state of ohio smokers have only one place to go to smoke, outside (not counting grandfathered in places). If you deem an individual is smoking to close(25 of 50ft, I can't recall) then report it to your local board of health, after x amounts of complaints they will investigate the offense and take action. This method will take awhile but it's the American way, slow.

I may have to start smoking again just for you! That way, I can just light up as I see you approaching from the rear and exhale just about the time you begin to pass me. BRILLIANT!
