hotmail has a capitalist dictator at the top, I have no idea where you get the idea that it is a democracy from.

Easy. Don't use IE7. Use Firefox. Or try out Google's new web browser.

No thanks to that. I am a believer that google is big brother and it is watching and learning everything we do. It is Skynet.

how the heck do you make windows live messenger use firefox instead of IE when you open hotmail through it, instead of through a bookmark?

+1...what's up with that? It's so light in some areas I can hardly read the text. Good thing its only my "junk" email account anyway.

Haha, you are the 5th person I heard say that today. I have been using GMail for years, so I am totally out of the loop on this.

I have been using Gmail for a long time too......Hotmail is great for a "crap account" though. The email you give when forced to when singing up for websites.

I rarely check my hotmail account on anything other than my PDA. Through the WM6.0 mail/message manager, it's still black text on a white background.

Actually, I thought it was the single best thing to happen to hotmail since Microsoft bought it (yes, I've had a hotmail account that long). The clutter is drastically reduced and it loads noticeably faster. There was no need to make it devoid of color, but it's a net gain. I've only kept it this long because of the old info I have on there and site registrations I didn't want to track down and update. It's my spam account.

In the intervening time between the Microsoft acquisition and this they've put users through:

* Interface bloat
* Constantly increasing ad numbers and prevalence
* Sloppy spam filters (I once got 1400 messages in a single day, and the only reason it stopped was because the account was full). It still has trouble figuring out that messages which say joe@paypal.com in the reply to field but v1agra@bigger.ru in the from field are phishing spam.
* Refusal to show headers (extremely useful for identifying spam)
* Changing URL's
* Pointless landing page
* Security issues (at one point you could get any message belonging to anyone on the entire system simply by manually altering the URL)
* The pointless annoyance of having to type "@hotmail.com" in order to login

and by far the absolute worst of all

* Redirecting to msn.com on logout. Talk about an inane site! It sometimes fools me into clicking on a link because it looks like it's trying to be reputable, so I expect to get an interesting/informative/insightful article. Instead I lose all faith in mankind for the next few hours. I would dare say 9 of 10 stupidest things I've ever read were on MSN.com. The 10th was a Mariah Carey quote in the paper.

Oh crap...I just realized I've turned into the old grumpy guy. I'm sorry.

Get off my lawn.
