Third Party Cellular Carriers
So, first, MetroPCS moved into my office building. Now, I see a commercial for Consumer Cellular, another third-party cellular carrier.
This is starting to remind me of the 90's when third-party carriers were very common. We later saw massive consolidation and disappearance of third parties, and now they're coming back.
The more the merrier.
Now, if we can get competition for broadband residential Internet service, this would be golden. The cable and telcos realize they have a monopoly, so are pushing how much they can get away with.
Third party carriers aren't really competitive, per se. They are all just buying bulk airtime from one of the majors and offering services that are non-competitive with them.
MetroPCS, for example, offers plans that are good only for metro areas, but have unlimited airtime. These don't really add to competition...
One can dream, though... gotta be careful about competition... next thing you know we'll be bailing out wireless carriers. Heh..
