When IT hits the fan

It's gonna go down today at the office. The two head guys have been butting heads for some time about this 25 million dollar project. Our main copier went down. 35 sets of details are to go out. They should have been done yesterday. But one obstinate **** wouldn't make it happen while the other was out of town. Things were said behind each other's back. Soon it will be out in the open.

This thing has about come to a boil. I was pulled aside and told to hold on because it was going to get real bumpy. I think the train is starting to vibrate. I will be here to watch it go off the tracks - Choo Choo!

This is why I cannot work in the office. My mind can't logically process artificial bull****. The stress is very unhealthy. I would rather be poor than ill or dead.

Take care of yourself sub...think of your family and other priorities outside the damn office. Let it burn down if you have to, but don't go down with the ship.

If you have been regularly placing the new cover sheets on your TPS reports, you might be in a position to take one of their jobs when he gets fired.

It's stories like this that make me glad I chose the financially uncertain life of a musician. I hope it works out for all involved though.

I won't. But I was assured by the head guy who owns 51% that I was utterly safe.
Heck, I didn't know what was happening. He came to me, took me to lunch, and out of the blue told me to just hang tight for a bit. Sheesh! It was a real pick-me-up to know my boss was worried about me through this. And no one else. He told me I was the only one he told to be prepared.

JoelS 11-21-08 09:56 AM

That's actually a good sign. You might be in line for a promotion.

TRaffic Jammer 11-21-08 09:59 AM

Didn't you get the memo regarding the new cover sheets for the TPS reports? Good thing Mr. 51% is on side, lest Mr. 49% lose his nut.

Get you ass off Foo and run to Kinko's. I think you've found a remedy for your depression.

Be glad you have a job. Many don't. Now get your ass off the forums and make some copies!

Repair man is on the way. Has the parts we need. Those TPS reports with the new covers will be ready by 5.

And SD,
I am blessed. Thanks man.

But my musical pursuits plot to drive me to the brink of pocket lint in this here off-season. I did pretty weel this past spring/summer during festival season though. Plus I'm getting better all around, so I look forward to next year.

If I can just survive this damned holiday crap.

anytime.

That's good news. Damn, now I feel like I'm having a good day at the office (party of one).:D

At least my outlines are developing at a decent rate. Now if I can only gently force this one contract through by the end of the day, I'll be gold.

Sounds like whoever "talked" to you is the **** disturber. Its usually those types of people that feed the fire by helping people pick sides and or insight a little fear.

Ignore them, everything is not an emergency and not everyone will be pissy about everything.

Not all offices suck :)...

Sounds scary, I would just start running, im not sure whats going on, but just run.

One rule I have in IT. Document everything. If there is an outage of some machine you never heard of before and you kick it back up, E-mail about it and what was done. If a new machine comes in, keep a changelog of what was done, so if something fails, you can show the machine's vendor what was done.

Should it come to a pissing contest, those document piles will save your derriere most cases, even if you document an epic fail of yours and how you remedied it.
