Last year I was fired a week before Chanukah. The year before that I had to quit (due to unfortunate circumstances) a week before Chanukah. I hope I hold on to my job this year!

Since the end of July. Made for great riding in Aug/Sept/Oct. Not so much now, though.

I got laid off the Friday before Christmas in 2001. We were told on Friday morning, and the company wanted us to clean up our office, and straighten up the accounts and customer files before leaving (yeah . . . we'll get right on that, Mr. Corporate President . . ). Instead we went out and got hammered at lunchtime. Came back and sat around to sober up before leaving at 5PM.

I've been out of work for several years. The company I worked for went bankrupt in '00. Still haven't found a job. I'm a stay at home dad. Seems to work out for us.

i think there is going to be a corelation with the number of posts/activity on BF to the number of unemployed.

btw.. yup.. outta work as well. Sucks..cuz its damn cold out and the wife is getting pissed off at the number of holes in the wall from me using the rollers. FYI..don't watch "judge judy" while on the rollers. Or "days of our lives" for that matter.

I haven't watch Days of our Lives in eons, but the other day I was stuck at home waiting for a delivery when I flipped on the tv and saw Bo and Hope, Steve and Kayla, and Marlena and whatever his name is now John or Roman. I thought for 1 second it was 1987... are still there... yeesh!

Is it true the show killed off Marlena? Is she dead dead? Or soap opera will transmogrify in 6 mos a year from now dead?

funny.. they look exactly the same! (not that i used to watch "days of our lives" back in the day or anything like that.. haha) However, HD TV proves how much makeup they have to cake on their face..

I imagine the make-up people use a trowel, and a paint roller.

Actually, that really sucks. I hope you all find work again soon. I just had to lay somebody off in my little company, and I carried her for a couple of months beyond the point where I still really needed her, hoping business would come around. Sadly, it did not. Man, it really killed me to let her go. She's still giving me freelance hours as I can provide them, hopefully it will ease the blow somewhat.

Hey, when the business isn't there, all the praying and hand-wringing in the world won't save the jobs, only new clients. I've been hustling to pick them up, we've nabbed a couple, but the work volume just dropped off despite that. So I'm on the other side, and I'm not as devastated as the person I had to let go, but it has caused me a bunch of sleepless nights, because I know how hard it is for my employee. Plus that also means I'm making less money, although that's a smaller issue in all of this.

Hang tough weenies. It's going to be a rocky ride for the next year or two. I've been through it before (17 years in business, started at the tail end of one recession, worked through another one in 2002), but this time around it's spookier. Don't listen to the news so much, you'll stress out less. Ride your bike.

It does bite for you guys who are out of work. I hope everything works out. I know how tough it can be. My wife and I struggled for almost two years because she was out of work.

My best goes out to you. Especially in this holiday season.
