The 80 Gb Zune

In about a hour I am going to get the Microsoft Zune, which is finally available in Canada. Im going to get the 80 gb seeing that its the same price as the 16 Gb

Anyone have a Zune here? I dont know anyone who has it. Ive read great reveiws about it. All that seems bad is the Software. Opinions please.

And GO

I still use my zen microphoto 8gb...
software and firmware blows massive donkey unless you use something like http://www.redchairsoftware.com/ but even then, the firmware still isn't that great either.

Yeah the software did suck. I never used it that much though. I just went to the music folder for it and added stuff in.

+1.

The Zen Micros are very solid devices. Excellent DSP (thus excellent audio), decent user interface, decent battery life, and portable enough. I'm not sure where it went, but I have the original somewhere lying around and I have a MicroPhoto (that I got for free!) that requires a new hard drive.

I don't know too much about the Zunes, but I've heard that they are very well-made devices.

Winamp has a pretty good interface for adding/removing songs, playlists and other things. The quality of their software and drivers sometimes makes me wonder about their hiring conditions.

Like everything Microsoft.

'All that's bad is the software' is like saying 'it's a great car except for the engine'.

Actually, I heard their firmware is pretty decent. They just messed up with the wireless.

Quite a shame, actually.

Congratulations! You'll be the first Zune owner in Canada, and the third in the world!

Fixed to correspond with the engine metaphor. Listen you propeller head, if the car runs like crap, do you really think the motoring public cares which part of the motor blows? Maybe you could work for GM.

Hurry, it's almost too late.

P.S. If you really think Microsoft can just go on their merry way along this path, look back to a much healthier and profitable GM c. 1988, and then ask them how it worked out for them 20 years later.

I got the Zune. They did not have the 80 gb so they offered the 120 gb. I went with it, and in the end, my mom bargained the price of the 120 down to the price of the 80. I love my mom

I have had a zune for awhile (being here in the US). I opted only for the 8gb, reasoning was I don't have a butt load of music, and I wanted a flash drive that wouldn't be affected by walking/jogging/cycling etc.

Having had an ipod and creative zen, I can say I like the zune better. The computer side interface is kinda dorky, but not horrible. The player itself is awesome. I actually bought one for a family member. Having the FM tuner built in is a plus.

Let us know how you like yours.

I have a 30GB Zune first gen.

Advantages:

You can copy files from the Zune back to another computer.
Plays MP3s, WMAs, AACs, and WAV files.
The Zune Marketplace is a pretty good store, although not as good as the URGE store that shut down, especially if you are into non mainstream genres.

Disadvantages:

Doesn't play Rhaposody protected music.
Requires the Zune software (which means you have to run XP, Vista, 2003, or 2008 to use it). There are no workaround utilities. If you don't like the Zune software (and I do admit its clunky at times), don't buy a Zune.
The wireless syncing may be useful, but I need to plug in my device to charge its battery, so might as well have it sync using the same pipe.

Yeah so I have this beautiful piece of technology now. I love it. The sync works well. I dont see what people have been saying. The software is pretty good too. Not as bad as what i heard about it. Not as easy as Itunes but good as it is. The headphones that came with it are surprisingly good for stock headphones. Screen is big. Touch pad works well.

I <3 Zune. Ipods are for Pcad. Zunes are for the young.

I'm waiting for my fiancee's Zune to show up. She's had a couple different iPods, from a first gen 5GB with the LCD screen to a Nano.
The driving force behind the switch is the company discount. Working for Microsoft, she gets the subscription to Zune Marketplace for cheap.
