Attachment 89019

This poor red tail got hit by a car - we think! looks like a broken wing & leg, and we have a call in to Raptor Rescue WV.

I saw the title and I thought you were talking about a hard drive.

I do hope that bird lives, though.

Good luck with helping the little guy. And keep your hands out of his reach...he's probably not in a real friendly mood at the moment.

Remember that these are wild animals who will be especially fearful and scared when injured. Call the professionals who deal with them on a daily basis. Remember, they have SHARP CLAWS!!!. My wife is ED of http://www.sbwcn.org. There's some useful into on their website. If you wish, you can give her a call.

I do have some experience at this, I worked at a wildlife rescue center. You might be able to take it to the vet if there is no rescue center around. Use a thick blanket to cover its entire body, specially the business end of that head. Hold it snug so it can't flap its wings. Use a thick glove like a welders glove to hold its feet. good luck

But the wing looks broken and the Op stated that the leg may be broken too, so if you choose to wrap it with a blanket be very, very carefull not to aggravate the injuries, or you can wait for the animal rescue to come

I will never understand why a bird would chose to walk across a road.

The hawk is still with us - we have it in a small heated outbuilding - it's wing is definately injured, but it's leg is definately broken.

We gently dried it off with a hair dryer, so it looks alot better now. Hubby's been feeding it (with a long stick!) - it evidently cannot eat by itself. It has been hopping about, so we're pretty sure it will survive - it has hopped up onto a bench to look out the window.

We heard back from Raptor Rescue today, and we are waiting for a call back from somone else to arrange to pick the bird up. Meanwhile, I spoke with my sister-in-law the VET, and she basically said to keep it warm, watered & fed & hope for the best. Letting it rest is the best we can do until the pros show up.

I'll take a few more pics in the morning to share with you all.

Awww...it's got fighting spirit! You guys are awesome for taking care of it, and hopefully the people at raptor rescue can fix it right up.

Brought the hawk to the Elk Valley Veternary Hospital today - they will x-ray it & fix it up, and then the folks from the 3 Rivers Avain Center will pick it up for rehab and eventual release. The hawk seemed pretty happy this morning... and then we had to stuff it into a box for transport

I thought you meant one of these. If you had, there is no help for you. You're dead, just don't know it yet.
