I am frightened by...

this. I saw this as a young kid on tv. I can't imagine the horror the family had to go through. What scares you?

life and all that it implies, esp. when one has children is scary. facing their early demise is not bearable to think about.

we (who have no children) were just saying the same thing last night (life without having had children is scary)....I guess life is always a little scary.

the flip side is all the fun to be had. we have freedom to enjoy life with few obligations...nice as that is I am sure even with all the demands and pressures it cannot compare to the joys of parenting.

There is much to be said for freedom. I miss it greatly at times. But just this morning, my four year old called out to me "Daddy!?". I walked into the den and said "yes Ryan" to which he replies with the sweetest smile in the world "I love you."

The unconditional love of a child, your own child, is an incredible gift. They know not what they do, but they bring me so close to tears of joy that I often have to leave the room, or scoop them up and hug them so they do not see the tears in my eyes.

No, I don't disagree w/ you re: the other side of the coin. How do you describe the feeling of being there for child birth, or when your kids say something like they love you and they mean it unconditionally?

I just felt bad for the Walsh family, I read his book as well, and seeing the movie really made an impression on me when I was young. It just makes me sad to think that there are people out there who would harm kids, considering how much I love my own.

I can't think of a specific fear that I have, but the thing that concerns me the most, that I am the most outspoken about, is corrupt, greedy, twisted and idiotic politicians (and those who manipulate them) who will stop at nothing to gain more power and money.

As a side note, I am glad to see they finally solved that case. I think it's safe to say that John has more than avenged Adam's death with his show.

Almost forgot. I AM afraid of the ocean. I try to live by the rule of conquering my fears and regretting nothing, but the ocean freaks me out. Between the tides, the waves, and the nasty **** in it, it seems to me that the ocean can kill you with ease any way you want to look at it. So that is one fear I have no reason or desire to face.

A couple months ago The Girl got an emergency re-schedule for additional imaging and ultrasound after the initial reads on her annual mammogram. It was the scariest 3 days waiting for that appointment. (Everything turned out to be OK.)

Me? Afraid?

Only of women in SUVs who drive with a cell phone in one hand, and a cigarette in the other. I saw three of them on Sunday.

Actually, I'm really freaked out of stuff under the water - I love water, I love swimming, etc. I just can't deal with shipwrecks, etc. I've got a scuba license, but there's no way that I'm ever doing much more than swimming around coral reefs and such - something about wrecked stuff underwater just terrifies me.

Maybe in a past life I drowned in a sinking ship or something...

Flood waters frighten me. Good thing our river (which I ride along to get to work) has been flooded since last Thursday.
