Oh no! Subaru is dropping WRC!

Subaru pulls out of 2009 World Rally Championship

Subaru benefited greatly from the rally identity and was the reason I could credibly post "Subaru ftw!" so many times. Besides, it needs to be known for more than just being the #1 lesbian car.

And with Audi dropping the ALMS and Honda dropping out of F1 (admittedly not a big loss considering the last 10 years), and with the odd F1 turn towards spec engines, world motorsport is really going downhill.

The new factory cars are great, actually, which leads me to wonder why they're dropping it.

I'd sooner watch CRC or Rally America anyway.

Well the two main reasons i can think of right now is that $$$ is tight due to the slumping global economy (participation in motorsports is technically advertising in a different form) and FIA wants to wants to move WRC racing to a Super 2000 format in 2010.

This is such BS. As it is now, privateers can be surprisingly competitive. Are the WRC cars that expensive? It's not like F1, which really needs drastic cost reductions going forward.

Maybe F1 should adopt some homologation rules.

I don't know how that would affect the races themselves, I just want a single seat car with a 20,000 RPM V8 to tool around in.
