Your office Holiday party

Mine was initially scheduled for this Saturday evening, a potluck with white elephant gift exchange, etc. (Horrendous, I hate these types of things.) And, worst of all as it was planned to be in a gathering room of our office building-- no alcohol to numb my pain.

Then, it was rescheduled to today, following a 3PM all-staff meeting (which is slated for about a half-hour). Part of the sad thing here (despite my SO being out of state) is that a friday during-office-hours holiday party doesn't allow for family and so's to attend.

Now, its been rescheduled yet again-- postponed by 1 hour, as the meeting has been moved to 4pm- I suspect because they don't want us leaving early.

1 hour, seriously?

What is your work doing?

I work for the federal gov't, so no employer paid party. They do however have a building gathering (yesterday) in the afternoon. Today there were "floor parties". Each floor hosts something. Our floor has a wiener roast & chips/veggies. The lab on the first floor has quizzes, fun facts & movies. This year they had clam chowder & info on various hoaxes & tall tales.

My bf is having an after work pizza party tonight at his shop (he's an automotive mechanic). I'm heading home to take care of the dog & then going there.

We went on a company luncheon at a very, very, fancy restaurant. It was fun time.

My previous company was small (<10), and we had quite the shindigs.
This company (~50) doesn't seem small to me- in the grand scheme, maybe so though!

My company had one on the 15th, and in usual fashion, I did not attend.

We don't do squat. Our company rah rah meeting is in Feb... in Wisconsin.
I kind of like it this way since I am not big on holiday celebrations. Though a free lunch would be nice. I am a sucker for free food. Well... free food that tastes decent.

My company doesn't have one, thank god. My wifes was a couple of days ago at a comedy club. Free drinks and free food. The comedian was funny too.

I love office parties. Often, somebody, whom you least expect, drinks too much and puts a lampshade on their head while parading around the room.

In previous years, my company had a turkey "lunch" catered by the cafeteria. The employees got a cheap coffee mug (as in can't put it in the dishwasher cheap) with the company logo on it.

This year the party was after a "mandatory" all hands town hall meeting. The meeting was held at a local hotel and the party consisted of appetizers and desserts afterwards. The big surprise was that they served beer and wine along with the soft drinks. I didn't think companies did that any more for liability reasons. It was pretty good. We were a little bummed that we didn't get to add to our cheap coffee mug collection though.

You mean like: Name that drug resistant disease?

My company did something (semi pot-luck), but not many of us who work from home attended (or so I gather). When you work from home, almost every day can be a party.

Individuals bring snacks, company caters a meal on site - after work hours. Another person OK.

Our tiny division (really tiny--1 supervisor, 8 tutors) threw a potluck, and our students brought most of the food. The Awesome Overlady (our boss's boss) provided turkey. No alcohol, as we are on campus, but there was tons of sparking cider. Yay! It was also our "good luck on the finals!" party, so it was at the beginning of the month.

The last time I was there it was -40F with windchill. I'm hoping they do not want us out there again.
Though a week of drinking was amusing.
