To pull the trigger, or not, that is the question

Newegg has a 17" monitor (widescreen, 1440x900) for $99 with free shipping. I could really use a second monitor, but would Newegg have some good after-Christmass deals.....ah....decisions, decisions....:confused1:

It's a Hans-G and the only thing the reviews are complaining about is the built-in speakers, but I'm not using them.

I think the Hanns-G use Samsung panels. I had a 22" briefly and it was very bright, at least.

Costco has a $24 Sceptre with some pretty nice specs for $250. I'm going to get that if I can't find a decent open-box deal after Xmas.

Don't get widescreen in small sizes, they are claustrophobic and you feel like flipping up the sun-shade all the time. On 17" and 19" screens, you really should get traditional 4:3 for more vertical real-estate. Only on 21" and above should you get widescreen. The main benefit is being able to see two full 8.5x11" pages next to each other. Certainly isn't readable on 17-19" screens.

+1. I brought a 17" widescreen home and couldn't stand it. Took it back and replaced it two days later. Looked good on the shelf but not on the desk.

I found a 19" widescreen (1680x1050, same res as 20 and 22") for $130 with free shipping....This is as a second monitor, so it doesn't have to have top-of-the-line performance.

Yeah. I think I'll wait till after Christmas.
