Ferrero Rocher = The new Fruitcake.

I am sick and tired of receiving these nasty chocolates for Christmas. I have been given 17 sets of these things for Christmas. I have actually used these things as practice golf balls in my back yard for the last two days.

Please remember the good old days, and give your business partners a bottle of Scotch, instead of these nasty nuggets of foulness out.

I actually like fruitcake. A shot of rum over it makes all the difference.

another fan of fruitcake checking in. The good ones, not the archived ones w/ green and red cherries... there's this monastery in Berryville VA that makes *amazing* fruitcakes, don't know if they ship.

How timely! I brought my boss a nice bottle of wine this morning and she left those Ferrero Rochers on my desk.

Does pannetone taste better when it's soaked in rum as well?

I've found way too many worms in those chocolates... gross!!!

BTW, panettone isn't real fruitcake, it's not dense enough. But it makes great french toast!!!

Ferrero Rocher? Seriously? If so, that may cure me of my affinity for them!

I found those round balls of chocolaty goop to be great for practice golf balls though they do tend to hook rather easily.

Ferrero Rocher says to me that you cared enough about me to buy my Christmas present from Walgreens.

Now we're talking. I'll be attempting to bake a couple of these this Christmas. My mother scanned her famous dutch recipe that she always uses.

While I also don't share the distaste for the aforementioned chocolates...I thought I'd chime in with my holiday fave...Lebkuchen.

Yeah, gotten quite a few worms. Just eat slowly and don't shove the whole thing in your mouth at once. Bite half of it, then look down and inspect...

Nah, I don't buy the worm thing. No self respecting worm would live in them. Serious.

The truth is better (or worse depending on your point of view). They ARE chock full of hydrogenated fat so they aren't my favorite either. Seriously, long before I new about transfat/hydrogenated fats there was something about them I didn't quite like and now I know why.

Haha, when I had a boatload of students, you wouldn't believe the utter crap I got. The worst gifts were $5 gift cards to really expensive restaurants that I couldn't afford to go to anyway (I taught really rich kids.) The best gift of all was a card a student made for me all by herself.

It sort of makes me sick how far out we are expected to extend gifts these days. That being said, I only bought one gift this year.

amen. those things are the worst.

I am grabbing a few 65% and 70% cocoa chocolate bars at the local stop and shop for my cousins. Nothing super fancy, but definitely decent chocolate.

My wife makes fudge, toffee candy, and sandies every Christmas and I have the pleasure of bringing them around to co-workers.
