prior to installation, speakers worked normally, such as when playing itunes. After installation, no sound coming from any application. When using the audio tuning wizard, it acts as if everything is working but no sound comes out.

Under the sound properties make sure it didn't default to the drivers for the web cam instead of the onboard soundcard. This usually happens on just the mic, but I've seen it jack up the speakers as well.

Edit: I can get you to the properties if you need help.

how do you check for drivers under sound properties? Is that in control panel or device manager?

Under control panel. I believe it's listed as sounds and audio devices.

There should be an audio tab that lists sound playback and sound recording.
