Best horror flick

For some reason, this time of year seems to bring out the horror movies. I want to know what the best/most terrifying horror flick is. I don't want to know your fav, just the one you thought was the best.

Was that a trailer for "The Unborn," or a Reader's Digest Condensed Movie?

Oh, I was just commenting on the sad state of movie trailers in this day and age.

I haven't delved much into the horror genre. In fact, I turned around and glanced at my DVD collection, and other than the first Alien (which I love) and 28 Days Later (which was okay), I don't see anything very horror-y.

I posted an example on Halloween. Haven't actually seen it. But it's a Spanish film. I'll run a search when my brain isn't rattled by work.

A few I enjoy:

The Shining - Jack Nicholson decending into madness during a winter of isolation.

Sleepy Hollow - The Tim Burton version, starring Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Christopher Walken. Great interpretation of the classic story.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The original version made back in the 1970s. Raw filmmaking, but very scary.

Halloween - Yep, back to the 1970s again. With Jamie Lee Curtis.

Metropolis as a horror flick? Wouldn't be on my horror list, but defiantely a classic from the silent film era.

Yeah, I only mention it because I've seen it listed as such. My brother got this cheap DVD collection of like 50 horror movies, and Metropolis is on there. It's also one of the few decent movies in the collection.

The first time I saw "The Birds" I was trembling with fear. No other movie came close.

It'd probably be really corny and crappy if I watched it now, but as someone who didn't much care for spiders to begin with, Arachnophobia was pretty unpleasant.
