...the most talented female in America right now. Just sayin'....dang she's tasteful. Guess I should have put this in music but what the heck.

I dont know about 'most talented' because I dont think you can
really have a 'most' or best' in creative stuff, but, she is definately
a great musician and songwriter. Her mid-late nineties stuff is
still my favorite period. she sooooo out-rocks the similar dooodage
    of that era !!!

Ill take the argument for 250, Alex..........

Cyndi doesnt write a lot of her stuff or actually play, as in 'lots of knowledge' an instrument.
As entertainment, groovey, but not in the same league as Sheryl

kd lang's pipes ftw. has she been doing anything lately?

old school all around talent? toss up betwixt Joni Mitchell and K8 Bush imho

by today's lackluster American Idol standards I guess Alicia Keys has a decent voice.

You will have to check her writing credits, will discover she plays 6-7 instruments, can cross 4 octaves, and has perfect pitch.

But I do love Sheryl Crow.

And our KD Lang is a world apart for most performers.

And there really is no best.

Obvious exaggeration on my part mostly to show what I think is an incredibly talented, not to mention 'hip', lady.

Oh no, I cannot understate my love for that woman as well! Sheryl I believe writes more stuff and is a more talented instrumentalist IMO. Nothing can compare to Bonnie's voice though for sure.

Sheryl Crow is good, but there are many female singer/songwriters that are much better. Norah Jones is one of my favorites. Joan Baez singing Diamonds and Rust is incredible. Sarah McLachlins's version of Old 55 is breathtaking. Karla Bonoff singing The Water is Wide will make your hair stand on end. Shelby Lynn's new album, Just a Little Lovin, is unfreaking believably great.

Let's see then then there is:

    Tori Amos
    Patricia Barber
    Diane Carroll
    Dianna Krall
    Eva Cassidy
    Natalie Merchant
Allison Krauss..... and sooooooo many more , all better than Sheryl Crow

And they all sound much better on the vinyl format.

Sheryl Crow is resting on her laurels. She hasn't put out anything good since The Globe Sessions.

ALL better, seriously? Crow plays several instruments, writes and sings and is outstanding at all of them. She cannot be pigeonholed. Her styles are incredibly varied. Not to take anything away from the others understand. I like Norah Jones a lot but she can't play like Crow for sure and generally her stuff is pretty similar. Allison Krauss? She can sing. The guys can play like hell but Allison only sings and only in one style also, much like Jones. You ever seen Allison Travis pick a guitar? Maybe I've missed that. I'm not talking about singing alone, a real musician is a player too. Or I might say, more talented.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass if it comes off as that I apologize.

I need to make sure I clear up the fact that I know Allison K plays the fiddle. Not sure what I was thinking. Union Stations vocals btw, are outstanding.

She has an outstanding new Christmas CD out. Not original material but some awfully nice arrangements.
