What is it with women and the toilet seat?

Ok, so us guys HAVE to put the toilet seat back down after we use it. That makes sense, after all, we put it up from being down...we should return it to how it once was.

But, umm, why is it that down is automatically the right way? Why can't up be the standard? Sounds like a double standard.

Speaking from experience, ahem, I've wandered out of bed and into the bathroom in the dark and, thinking everything is A-OK, sit down and .... fall in.

That shall be my protest.

You see, i'm in an office of mostly women. And there is one who is particularly, well, particular. I just changed offices so i'm now using "her" bathroom. I've always lived with women, i'm a well trained toilet seat putter downer. I'm very good about it, it's habit. Yet, someone left the seat up so naturally she comes to me:

"If you're going to use this bathroom now, you have to put the seat down".

Oh, really? I do? Well...**** OFF. How about that You could say "Hey, Tim, i don't know if you left the seat up or not but do you think you could try and make sure to put it down when you use this bathroom?"

Nope, couldn't do that.

Fact: I didn't leave it up
Fact: I will now close the lid every time, so they all have to reach over and do some work too.

Purposely leave it up, now. She wants to blame you, better make sure the blame is correct.

Please, do not make the mistake of applying logic to this issue.

It's a power struggle, therefore emotionally based. You'll never win.

I think it's gross when the lid isn't closed, so close the lid!!! That takes care of the problem brough up in the OP, too.

My wife suddenly started leaving the lid up and the cat fell in.

My ex-husband did that one night after he came home from drinking. Heard him get up and ... something didn't sound right. Went in and sure enough! Flipped on the light and yelled - probably made him miss. He could also have been sleepwalking as I guess he did that when he was a kid. But I never witnessed him doing that an all the years I knew him. Hmmmmm, but I did catch him doing that in a hotel room too, 'cept I caught him in the corner by some curtains...

I started doing that for safety reasons when the kids were toddlers. A number of children drown in toilets every year. I still do it now out of habit and the grandkids.

I always close the seat, and I primarily live by myself. Open toilets just look icky to me. And besides, it's bad feng shui to leave the seat up (money flushing down the drain).
