    Relationship drama (short)

Dad: separated, divorce almost final; good relationship with ex - no bitter fighting.
3 kids, 22, 19, 17. He is living with his girlfriend, youngest daughter living with Mom.

Girlfriend: Never been married (almost, a couple of times); no kids.

Problem: Ex going on trip over weekend, asked Dad to stay at house with 17 year old (overnight), so daughter can watch the dogs, go to work.

GF having a cow. Dad doesn't see what the big deal is.

    Discuss.

Yup - time for new GF. Dude comes with pre-existing family. Tell the GF to suck it up or get lost.

Sounds like a near-perfect situation, except for the insecure closet-control-freak GF.

Time to find a new GF, as others have said.

There is absolutely no problem here. In fact, many would love to have it so good.

GF should be thankful that the relationship between the two isn't rife with acrimony.

Have GF accompany Dad over so she can see the ex isn't there. If she can't operate on trust with that (IMO unnecessary) reassurance, time to take her to counseling, or find a new GF. This might be why she's never been married, but then again maybe she's been burned by someone who was still seeing their ex and her at the same time.
The search for inner peace continues...

She was invited to come along, however, will not step foot in the house.

My daughter comes BEFORE ANY woman. That said, I don't see why dogs need watching. I would never stay @ ex house unless there was an emergency or something. I would bring dogs and daughter to my place if possible. Trust is good but overconfidence is not. But then again, I'm Hispanic and over jealous by nature so take my opinion lightly.

Your girlfriend can have cows?! That's freaking amazing!

Seriously, how understanding is your current girlfriend with kids in general?

    Let her have the cow.

The milk will more than make up for any inconvenience.

    +1
    Let her have the cow.
Let her see that your kid is going to come first.
If she can't handle it, let her have the road.

Can you share some of that milk?

I could use some butter for baking my bread.

GF has to realize that for forever your ex will be the mother of your children. And sometimes you just have to do things that will involve her or her house. If your daughter has to watch the dogs and mom doesnt' want the girl alone (perhaps having guests over without permission? Doesnt' want the girl to be home alone?) then so be it. It's not like you are going to have an affair...with your ex.

Is there any special reason why she won't step foot in the house? I've been to my ex's house with my daughter when he was both home and away. I've also been when his new wife was there. What's the big deal?
