Which probably means they want to check and see if you have any drunken pictures up, rather than invite you to parties with the boss . . .

I'm sure that is it. I actually was told by a prospective employer that they were looking for pictures of candidates who were drunk or stoned, or if they belonged to some weird fringe political group that would humilate their company.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the norm these days, especially for IT positions where companies want to make sure the candidate who they are trusting with the keys to their city is someone who is deserving it, and won't harm their operations.

And what would happen if one told any potential employers (truthfully) that one did not have any of those site accounts/memberships?

School bully who wanted to "friend" me. I nearly forgot about her when she poked me and requested Facebook friendship. Either she is poking and befriending everybody in her grade 4/5 class picture or she wants to physically and emotionally terrorize me some more. No thanks either way.

It's very handy when you don't have a Facebook, Myspace, etc. page. Of course, I could always give them this site and username, but then I would never get hired. Besides, I could always put jsharr down as me on the form.

no, wait. that would be bad. very, very bad.
