    I satisfied her marital needs and made her a nice breakfast this morning, so she is happy right now. The breakfast included bacon, so I am hoping for extra points with that.

    On the related topic of bacon, how do people here prepare it?

    I have discovered that I have less mess and less shrinkage by preparing it in the oven. I use a large jelly roll pan and put a cooling rack in the pan. I drape the bacon strips over the rack and bake it at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. This allows the fat to render out and away from the bacon, keeping it crispy. You can turn the oven up to 425 or 450 and cook it much quicker, but you get more shrinkage of the bacon and possible burning.

    Since my parents were born and raised in Arkansas, they taught me the value of keeping a crock of bacon drippings. I drain the pan into the crock and keep the crock in the fridge. Just the thing if I need to fry or saute something that will benefit from the flavor of bacon.

    I prepare it by not buying it.

    I prefer it crispy well done.
    or medium juicy after I strip away the fatty section and eat mostly the meat only.

    Are you one of the vegetarian bacon eating types? Do you have any recommendations for a good vegetarian bacon? I have done some limited testing of the brands available in this area (two, I think) and was somewhat underwhelmed.

    I am a vegetarian and I don't like the taste of meat, so I try to avoid things that taste like it. I wish I could be more help.

    When I last tried it, the Morningstar and Light Life brands were the only two I could find in this area. The Light Life is completely vegan and was the worse of the two. The Morningstar product, when cooked, had a texture reminiscent of a dry ******* or flatbread. It had none of the moist or fatty mouthfeel of real bacon. I thought it would be best used as a garnish, as bacon pieces, or maybe in a sandwich with moist condiments.

    I should point out that my taste test was about three or four years ago, so the products may have changed. From eyeballing the ingredients list, I don't think they have, though.

    One of the better things about being single is you can be out on your bike for over 5 hours on a Sunday afternoon and no one will complain about it.

    I had a nice long ride today, sat in the jacuzzi tub, and now I have a slab of ribs in the oven. Real ribs, not some tofu/soy/rubber imitation. Mmmmm.
