Good night, Genki.

My best friend for over twenty years. Thank you for allowing me to be in your life and enriching mine forever. You shared with me your spirit which is now a part of mine and illustrated to me what true Agape is.

I'll see you in Heaven.

Ohhh, you're poor kitty. I had to do that a couple of years ago. It's never easy even if it's the best thing for the cat.

I remember your posts about this Siu. I wish you peace at a difficult time; but I am thinking you were so lucky to have such a beautiful little friend for more than two decades! We should all be so fortunate.

You are indeed fortunate to have spent so much time with a marvelous friend. That is what I remember about my cat friends--that I was able to spend time with them at all. Cats are such good teachers.

He had the bestest mommy a kitty could hope for. Plus, he had the longest life a kitty could reasonably hope for.

Be happy that his pain is gone, and that he has his mind back.

I know it will take time, and there will always be a void that he left. But remember that he isn't gone, just waiting for you.

Thanks all. But I cannot forgive myself for that decision. Just because my name was on his file as responsible person should not give me the power to do this. Apparently it did. And that was wrong. But he was suffering.

well, there you go. He lived a full cat's life. You definitely did the humane thing. I know it sucks - I've been there and it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

But you just know when it was the right thing. If it wasn't more humane than prolonging their suffering, you wouldn't have done it. Have faith in your wisdom in these things. Your love for your pet is no different in these cases than it is when you feed them and bring them to the vet for shots or treating injuries. It's just much much sadder, of course.

And now he's not. You did the right thing. Who knows how much more suffering he would've be faced with otherwise.

East Hill pointed out to me that if her were to survive the surgery, would I be willing to put him through it again?

He had a heart murmur that caused a clot to form that moved to his legs. The doctor said that IF he survived it, a clot would most likely form again and the same thing would happen.

Now that I've got my head on a little better, things are starting to make sense.

Thanks all of you, really.

The two cats that my grandmother had when I was growing up lived to be 20 and 19. That's a pretty amazing life for a cat. My current eldest cats will be 18 in June of this year. I'm not looking forward to losing them, since they've been a part of my life for a long time.

I felt horribly guilty when I had to put my kitty to sleep. But she was suffering too and it was the best thing. The vet told me if I hadn't done it my kitty would have died on her own in about a week and it would not have been pleasant. You did the right thing.

If he had died in the surgery, you would have felt worse for putting him through it. Given how frail he was, even if he survived, having to recover from it would have been terrible. Being on death's door as it was, it wasn't even remotely a good idea to put him through that. Wouldn't have made any sense.

After 20 great years, you had to make a tough decision, and luckily for him and you, you made the right one. Nothing to regret.

I'm sad for your loss Siu. Genke is with the Lord now and thats always the best place to be. But now is not the time to mourn. You have to find a new friend right away. When my Minnie had to be put to sleep, I already had Daisy, one of her pups to cheer me up when I got home. I would have been in a bad way without Daisy. She missed Minnie also for awhile. Since then Mojo had joined our little pack and life hasn't been the same!

X, we are never ready for them to leave.

Cbad, it's so hard to make that decision though. Signing the paper to authorize it.

Thanks for the tulips, Allen.

Mich, I'm not sure he would have made it with his heart that way. I didn't even know he had a murmur.

Ernest, I feel like if I got a new kitten I would not be respecting Genki. It would feel as if I was replacing him.
