What would you do

My dad married my step mom 6 years ago after 6 years of living together. In that time my step mom has worked a full year twice, including this year. I have made more money in my life than her, at 23.

My step mom is the type of person that has her kids do everything for her, like get her cigarettes or her purse out of her car. She is a bit of a pig, my fathers room was spotless throughout my childhood and now it is a disaster as is much of the house.

This is primarily due to her three daughters whom don't seem to care about the status of the house and contribute greatly to its mess. My dad has paid for more than half their lives since they have lived here, this includes food, insurance, etc. Keep in mind, step mom has pretty much never worked.

Ok...now this.

I am living at home while i pay off some bills and get a bit of savings ready before i move into my own place (likely an apartment).

I just got home from work. Step mom was laying in bed watching TV, as she does 75% of the time that she's home. I'm in the door no more than 2 seconds when she calls me upstairs and says

"Chinese...you fly, i buy?"

Now here's the thing. Doing a favor for someone every now and then is fine...but with this women it is an every day occurrence and most of the time they are things solely for her...things she could do herself, like getting a package out of the mailbox that she knew was there. I'm talking 12 years of this stuff.

I live at home at 23...this is because i had to pay my own way through school and need a moment to catch up from that.

I don't want Chinese food. If i go pick it up, i'll likely just make some white rice, veggies and have some chicken/tuna.

Should i go get the Chinese?

I'm gonna go shower real quick...majority rules.

I would say no. Or say fine, I charge $10.00 per hour plus tips. 1 hour minimum.

She's buying, yes, but I'm not eating. It's altruistic in thought but not in practice. Does this matter? I don't know.

There was no majority in the time i was in the shower, which is ironic because she's ordering delivery from somewhere else. For the sake of possibly making me a better person, I'd like the discussion to continue.

Carry on foo.

Free food, why make waves as you're about to leave. You're not going to change anything. Just pick some stuff out that you can reheat later on (Buddhist Delight is awesome) and get extra brown rice.

Wait, that's not even true. There is nothing altruistic about it on her part. She was hungry, if she wasn't it wouldn't have come up. So scratch the altruism angle i was giving her...for the bennifit of doubt.

Out of respect for your father and for her, go. Your dad is doing for you by letting you stay at their house. Regardless if you are paying rent, you are an adult and they have another adult living in their home.

If your dad is okay with her way of living, that is his choice. It's up to him to get that part straightened out with her. If he chooses to support her kids, that also is his choice. If it's uncomfy for you to live there, then move.

Besides, I thought you were living with your gf and planning on buying a house...as you discussed here. Buying a home with a significant other

Now if your gf is living there too, then you REALLY should go.

Absolutely not. I would not go. If you were planning to go out in the first place and she asked you to bring something back...totally different. If she was unable to get out herself...totally different. She is perfectly capable and shouldn't be asking you to do it for her.

I say no. If I read the story right she"s buying means she's spending your dad's money and too lazy to cook. I say make yourself something and not offer her any.

Sorry to sound cruel, but she sounds like my X

For what its worth. My dad isn't home tonight. He's off busting his ass in the freezing cold to pay the bills. I forgot to mention that she hemorrhages money like no tomorrow. That's the only reason she's working.

Honestly though, he's not. Again...that's why she's working.

1.) It's not uncomfy. It is, in fact, way too comfy. That is actually why i want to move. Life shouldn't be this easy for me right now. Things like that impede progress. However, given the economic state of things, i'd rather be as debt free and as financially secure as possible before i move out.

2. I pretty much am living with my girlfriend. My family loves her.

I will say this about my family, the home has always been warm and welcome to people. There are always people here. I enjoy that about our home.

She works right now. But i suspect she spends more than she makes as most of her check goes into the new car they bought for her (which she needed).

Well if your dad has a cell phone the easy thing to do would be to call him and say you don't want to go but if he wants you to go, then you'll go.

Or better, say what every mother has said to their child at one point:

"What, are your legs painted on?"
