Hey all you job seekers, your identity is being stolen

It looks like Monster.com has been breached, for the third time. Users information has been stolen, again. They have failed to tell their users, that's why i will.

Monster's database of user account information--which includes user IDs, passwords, e-mail addresses, names, phone numbers, and some demographic data--was illegally accessed and information was taken, the company said on Friday.

The information that was stolen did not include resumes or sensitive information like Social Security numbers and financial data. But someone could use the data that was breached to contact Monster users and use social engineering to trick them out of their information.

Monster is urging its users to visit the site and change their password. As a matter of policy, Monster does not send unsolicited e-mail asking users to confirm usernames and passwords or to download anything.

Job sites are a likely target during an economic downturn, security firm AppRiver said in a recent report on spam and other Internet security threats.

More information on security tips is available on the Monster security Web page.

It got me the highest paying job I ever had a few years ago, and I haven't been back since then. I suppose I'll go change my password for the hell of it, but I've got no intentions of ever using the site again anyway.

wow, I'm impressed. the only experience I had using Monster is that it was full of SPAM, and generally a pile of crap. :-P

Monster, Careerbuilder...great sites. Unfortunately spammers and scammers have overrun them.

Well, at the time, my skill set was in high demand. Still sort of is, but there are less jobs than workers. The nice thing is I work hard enough that the owner of that company told me any time I'm looking for work I can call him up, so the site still continues to serve me well.

So here I am applying for some jobs on monster, decide to take a break, and what do I see but this post. Crazy. I started using monster when it was practically brand new. Since then I've had some great job opportunities I never would have had with out using monster. I'm not too worried about the data that someone may have, it's nothing more than they'd get by googling my name (except the UID/PW) and I'm not about to fall for some phishing scam and am pretty sure if they're sending out virus/malware that I'll be safe since I don't use Windows.

Thanks for the heads up though! I'm really disappointed that monster didn't announce this in a bigger fashion.
