Personal Development Goal ... what's yours?

If your company forced you to come up with 1 Personal Development Goal for the year, what would it be? It has to be something you recognize as an issue you need work on to develop yourself. It can't be general work skills. For example: "Try to be more open to ideas from others" or "improve time management" or "be less abrasive to others". You get the idea.

What would be yours?

My personal development goal would be to sharpen my skills of avoiding the kind of people who justify their paychecks by recommending personal development seminars and other time wasting activities.

Companies should spend training money on training, not on love-ins.

To a point, I agree with you. Lately it seems like all I've been doing is attending Leadership, Human Performance Improvement, and Development Seminars. Definitely taking me away from what I need to get done. Though I got to admit there is value in some of the Seminars ... and there's always great food

Along with the Seminars, there has also been an increase to the number of meetings I have to attend during the week. I'm finding this is putting a strain on my ability to meet deadlines on critical work. Tberefore, for 2009 my personal development goal is to work on my Time Management. Not sure how I'm going to improve it ... maybe lock myself in my office until I get my other work done

Be more willing to at least listen to the opinions of other engineers, in spite of the fact that theirs are wrong, and mine are right.

Right now, my company has offended my greatly. I'm working on a letter to get them to rebuke some statements that a sponsored speaker made. So, until then, they'd get a canned statement of something to the effect of "Improve my customer relations ability to increase my rate of requested appointments and increase sales of memberships."

Both of which I care minimally about. I'll recommend the best course of action for the client, not the company.

I saw Ted Nugent do that.

OK. So he didn't sound like Dylan.
