Skinnyone down and out :(

short version - Knee strain from landing awkwardly while playing basketball.

Long version..

I was playing hoops yesterday and driving to the basket, got turned around, laded on my heel, knee flexed and falling backwards. Seemed like something popped out and popped back in. Pain was pretty bad momentarily and it felt like the leg just went numb. Iced the knee, limped around to the car and went to the ER. I wanted to know if I tore a ligament or if it was something I had to immobilize the knee for. My knee felt pretty unstable when I tried to do anything that put sideways torque on it.

The doc thinks that my knee cap popped out of the patella tendon and then back in. The x-rays seems to indicate no ligament damage. Knee strain is the diagnosis. The knee is swollen on the front and I have trouble straightening the knee completely. Flexed is no problem. Surprisingly the tops of my calves hurt too. Perhaps from the inability to stretch the leg.

Anyway, the doc says ibuprofen, ice and rest is all that can be done. Hoping to be back on the bike soon. I think I am bidding aideu to skiing at least this season. Volleyball is next on the chopping block.

Join the pain club, buddy. Sorry to hear that. I'm glad there doesn't seem to be any major damage, though. That's good.

No ligament or cartilage damage? Say 11 Hail Marys, STFU and take the friggin Advil. I've had two knee operations, a scope and an ACL reconstruction, and now @ age 51 my knee is arthritic. A knee strain is the best possible news your doctor could have ever given you. Hope it feels better. And I'm sure you can ride your bicycle very soon.

I would take 600 mg Ibuprofen 3x daily (that's (3) 200 mg tabs, three times each day. ). That's the prescription dosage.

That'll teach ya not to do any kind of non-bike exercise.

So did you sustain this injury while dunking on Obama or what?
