Just go in and advocate the death penalty for a parking ticket. They'll excuse you.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I really want to try jury duty. I know that it's a lot of hours spent in court doing nothing, but it seems interesting.

Yeah, the last time I got a notice, I got to the final round before they canceled the whole thing. The case sounded like a tale of suspense and intrigue, too. I was kind of bummed.

Good luck. Nothing else I've experienced manages to divide and unite so much at the same time.

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

The only time I got called I was one slot away from being on the jury, but fortunately the attorneys stopped using their disqualifications early. The defendant was some dude who was accused of liking his 8 and 10 year old nephews a little too much. I'm glad I didn't have to listen to that testimony.

The last time I was called to jury duty, I was unemployed with lotsa time on my hands, and the case sounded interesting and I wanted to get on the jury.

It was a sexual assault case. After a wedding reception at a hotel, a guy and girl went upstairs to a room, and the guy claimed they fooled around and started having sex. He said she then changed her mind because she had a boyfriend and felt guilty, so they stopped. She claimed there was no sex, she just fell asleep and then woke up to him having sex with her. He said, she said. Because of the sensitive nature of the case, they called in about 80 jurors, and as each one went up for questioning, they were all subject to very personal questions about whether they were sexually assaulted in the past, or victims of domestic violence, or whether they knew of anyone who were victims, that kind of stuff. So many people ended up crying in the jury box and getting dismissed, that I was pretty sure I would get on the jury.

When the jury was finally seated, there were only 7 people left who were never called up, including me . If they had just called my name, I'm sure I could have saved a few people from feeling devastated in front of a bunch of strangers.

I like jury duty. It got me out of work. For several days we would report then be let go early. I had the rest of those days off and I would forget to go into work.

I did sit through a case and it was very interesting.
They also bought us pizza.

I got to sit on a jury that sent a jerk away for 26 years. He broke into a house, ripped off most everything, kept a gun (felon) and terrorized a 17 year old girl coming home to find him ripping them off. We gave him his sixth count and he went away.

Funny thing was the foreman told me later that if he had known the crook was in for his last strikes and would really go to jail he (the foreman) would have voted not guilty.

Why would you not want to do jury duty?

But it's a civic duty.

By law work has to let you off. And by contract I got paid my regular wages + mileage on my car and parking.

You have to shut your eyes and click your heels together three times and it will. Not by magic, but because your boss will fire you for wearing the checkered gingham dress and ruby red slippers to work again.
