Receipt check - pet peeve!!!

Another of my occasional "pet peeve" threads.

Why do warehouse stores insist on checking your receipt when you leave? Why are they any different than any other store? I mean I paid for a membership and have to show my card just to get into the store. You only sell things in 50 gallon containers any way. What are the chances I'm going to pay for a membership to come in and try to steal something I can barely fit into the back of my vehicle anyway?

But you may have only paid for 290 of those 300 rolls of tp.

Demand that they show you a warrant and then stand your ground.

They do the same thing at Fry's Electronics. I like it when the find one item on the receipt and then search for it.

Yes sir, I realize your son is crying and you have frozen food that needs to get in your fridge as soon as possible, but I really need to see the 18 pack of mint dental floss before I can let you go.

Several times they have either overcharged me or forgotten to charge me for items on the shelf under the basket.

Exactly! Yes, Fry's is the same.

It just annoys me. I want to put the receipt away because I need to file it properly to discount it from my check book (using debit card). I don't want to have to keep it out and handy along with other things I may be holding for you to "pretend" to look at it.

95% of the time, I can tell that the receipt checkers don't really check a damn thing. They just glance at the receipt, then glance at your cart and check it. WTF is the point of hassling EVERY PERSON who is a customer for a stupid false pretense?

The person whose job it is to mark Fry's receipts with a highlighter is usually busy with someone else, so I avoid eye contact and just walk out.

Seriously, my wife and I call the "guard" at Sam's Club the Door Nazi. What are they looking for, the 60 inch big screen TV I hid under my 2 gallon container of Tide? Nobody can count and look at ALL the receipts and scan for every item. NFW!

You are missing a chance for some fun! Take a high-cost and small object out of your cart and put it in your coat pocket. The fun practically builds itself.

I wonder if there's a 'mandatory receipt check' clause on the application to join...and I don't want to search online to find out.

Like, oh my god. It's, like, so hard to hold out a receipt for two seconds while someone checks it with a marker. My day is, like, totally ruined.

It's the price you pay for "lower" prices. If they have less "shrink" (what we call theft) then you get lower prices. In some stores you'll see 10% loss in a year. It all goes right back to the consumer's wallet. So your extra minute in the store probably saved you 10% on your purchase.

True story...

A couple of enterprising thieves stole a canoe from one of our biggest department stores and a few of the staff (who were not from sporting goods) helped them load it on their truck.

When the fellows came back to get their forgotten life jackets and paddles the same employees helped them with those too.

My friend works at a Target and they load stuff into their friend's car all the time. If they escort the person out, nobody questions it.

Warehouse clubs where you pay for the membership its in your membership agreement that they check for receipts so either show it or don't pay for the membership. Other stores there is no agreement so they don't get to see a thing. I don't even stop when those stupid "inventory control" alarms go off anymore, I usually just talk to the kids and pretend I didn;t hear them. There was a home depot that must have had theirs too sensitive because I'd set it off every time I went through, don't know it it was my leathermen or cell phone or what. I have all my receipts filed away at home so I can keep track of projects and such, I'm tempted to pull the folder out of the firesafe and bring the whole thing in and as soon as I buy something file that receipt along with the 250 others in the folder and let them try to find it
In college we used to go to local stores and peel the security stickers off of things and put them sticky side up on the floor right next to the edge of a carpet or somehting where people will not see them and step on them so they would stick to their shoes then watch the alarm go off as they went out the door.

When I was in college my we used to peel the magnetic strips out of a couple of books and cut them up and then hide the pieces everywhere in my roomates' shoes, clothes, wallet, and backpack. When he would try to leave the library it caused quite a stir.

You're missing the point. There's no reason WHY they should do it.
