Why are some thread titles in bold, and others in plain text?

Does anyone understand this?

that button beside "Logout", click on "Mark All Forums Read" it'll get rid of all these bold titles.

BF is monitored. Any thread that has a stupid post in it is left with plain text. Any threads with all good posts is in bold. So, scan through all the ones with plain text and see which poster appears in each one. There is your culprit.

Most plausible explanation so far. I'd just assumed that the threads in bold were the ones that were being viewed at the time by other members...

I think it's supposed be bold = threads that you haven't read, or that have changed since you read them. But there seems to be a certain degree of randomness about it.
