    any doctors out there?

An inhaler, which contains albuterol, is a bronchodilator.
Mucinex, loosens phlegm, which will eventually reduce coughing spasms.
    They are not the same.

    Is this correct?

I am not a doctor (I'm an asthmatic of many years ), but I can tell you that yes, they are not the same, and you've got it down.

Mucinex contains guaifenesin (an expectorant) and dextromethorphan (in the case of DM varieties) which is a cough supressant and antihistamine.

Different from a bronchodilator, which opens constricted airways.

Albuterol can also jack up your blood pressure.

That's correct. Both can help with coughing spasms, though-- it totally depends on why you're coughing. Both mucus/phlegm and bronchospasm can/will make you cough.

I have a sense that there's a bigger question behind this--one you should discuss with a doctor somewhere other than the interwebs. Go see a doctor.
