psychologists, halp!!!

Could you guys explain pre- and postconstancy to me? I am just. not. getting it.

edit: this is in relation to visual perception. I just don't get *how* things get classified as pre- or postconstancy.

Does this help?

If I'm understanding it. Preconstancy supposes that the brain is hard-wired to interpret something in a certain manner. Posconstancy infers that some analysis occurs within the brain, and that how we define what we are seeing is dependent on that.

If I have it right, it seems like some serious hair-splitting, but I suppose that knowing which way it is could lead to something else.
