No. Used to in the 80's when it was known as the two martini lunch at the office. Of course I didn't drink martinis so there were a few times I had a good buzz coming back to the office after killing a couple pitchers with a couple other people. The afternoon was a complete waste though.

That's a shame. A margarita would have gone excellent with my fajita's...

    When I was younger, yes

I dont see a problem with it unless you're the guy who comes
back and acts like they've had alcohol for lunch.

naw, not socially acceptable in the states. too bad, as I was at a great italian place friday and a glass of wine would have been amazing.
i woke up one morning and i stepped out of bed | had to get a bike, had to paint it red

Depends entirely on the company, the situation, and the job level.

My current job and position - absolutely not.

My previous job was working as a (high-level) IT grunt at a drilling company. A beer or two at lunch was almost a requirement. Especially if you with managers or above.

I've worked at a few places where it was the norm for a friday lunch, but not anymore.

A little puff-puff is a different story though.

Depends. I once had a manager insist on buying me a margarita at lunch as long as I didn't have to give a presentation that afternoon. I didn't have any meetings scheduled, so we had our margaritas. In my current setting, it's not unusual for people to go back to work after Friday happy hour, and we are allowed to use some common sense and identify situations where a drink before being done with work is acceptable. For example, some members of the lab, myself included, enjoy an occasional beer at Saturday lunch and return to work afterward. I recall that I was a stickler for not drinking until I was 21, but I made an exception for Friday afternoon happy hours at the chemistry department, which my coworkers and I attended for 30 minutes before returning to work.

When I worked for a small gen-gineering firm back in Ohio, we (whole company, boss included) would go across the street to the local brewpub for burgers and pitchers once in a while.
Where I work now, that wouldn't go over so well... but many people head down to RedHook on Friday evening after work.

Only when I was in the military.
"Let us hope our weapons are never needed --but do not forget what the common people knew when they demanded the Bill of Rights: An armed citizenry is the first defense, the best defense, and the final defense against tyranny. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government -- and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws" - Edward Abbey

YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF NAMBY-PAMBYS! Always drink at lunch. It's the fundamental right of all people to enjoy alcohol whenever possible.

That said, I don't actually have a job, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.

Well, since I'm a teacher, I have 30 minutes for lunch, and being the young, "cool" teacher, rumors already float about what I spend my weekends doing, I don't think it'd be too prudent...
