got a chek from dshs

got a check from the washingtion dept of social and health services today, for $1. that's not a misprint.
but I havent lived in washingtion for atleast 4 months and was unaware I was getting food stamps or anything similar. Their website doesnt have any useful information, and it is setup so you an't call them from out of state, I don't know what to do next. but I am curious as to what to do in case they decide they have been paying me for a while and what me to pay them back. which would suck.

I remember something about a problem with your room mate, but I thought that he left and got his own place and you were thinking about going back or going to CA with your dad or something like that.

I never heard after that...didn't realize you'd actually left. Sorry to hear all that.

Apparently the State of Washington like to send people oddball cheques. I just got one on Saturday from the Department of Licensing for $26. The accompanying letter explained that for 3 years I've been charged with some MTA tax on my vehicle registration, but the vehicle has been registered outside the applicable MTA tax area. Whatev. $26 is almost 3 brevet registration fees, so I'm happy.

The state sent out about 40,000 of those $1 checks so they would qualify for several million dollars from a federal program. It doesn't matter if you cash the check or not, the state still qualifies.

that is aggravating on several levels, because I am pretty sure the state told me I didn't qualify for state assistance. which is part of the reason getting the check is odd. and if you add it up, it cost them more than $1 to send that check

on a side note, I have an appeal for my disability case in april,

Read about this on the news. If they can provide assistance to a certain amount of people, they can qualify for a huge federal assist. So they sent out a whole bunch of $1 checks to get additional assistance funds for people who need it. Seems odd, but I guess it'll be beneficial in the long run.
