Alright, who burned the popcorn!

The entire hallway - and now my office stinks - and it's not going away.

Why does that have to smell so bad.

<scrambles for that can of Oust in the back drawer>

They took away the microwave in the old hospital for that.

They're thinking of taking away the microwaves in the new hospital for that.

Burned popcorn is one of the worst lingering smells there are. Especially in an office.

The silly thing is that EVERYBODY knows about the warning. Yet 1 person still find some way to f*** it up.

I did it. I was trying to cover the smell from when Crackerjab pulled KT's finger.

True story. When my wife and I just started dating, I caught a bag of popcorn on fire in her NEW microwave. The smoke turned the inside of the microwave yellow and it smelled of burned popcorn until the day we got rid of it.

I bought her a new microwave soon after we got married and bought a house, but she had that smelly, yellowed microwave the whole time we were dating.

Had a teacher last year do that. She put the popcorn in - input the incorrect time and walked away. I smelled it first - ran back to the kitchenette - where she had just taken the smoking bag out of the microwave.

And she tossed the still schmoking thing into the garbage. And walked away.

The inside of the microwave was charred brown on one side of it and even with cleaning - smelled for the next two weeks. I embarrassed her into coming back to the kitchenette and take out the garbage as that stunk too.

You think by now people would understand how the microwave works with that stuff.

She's lucky it didn't catch the garbage on fire and burn the whole school down.

Think popcorn stinks? Check this out. True story. A fellow co-worker had one of those Kraft Easy-Mac cups for lunch. Instead of the two minute cook time, he pressed twenty minutes and stepped out for some reason. I'm not sure how long it went, but you didn't have to be in the area of the lunchroom to smell it. I'm thinking you could get a hit of that at about 200 feet away. It made the burned popcorn smell like roses. In the end, the microwave had to be tossed out.

After the 3rd time someone set off the fire alarms and we had to evacuate the building, wait for the fire department to issue an "all clear", etc. the previous company I worked for banned microwave popcorn from the premesis. (After the 1st false response, the company got charged $2500 for each consecutive false alarm.)

I got in trouble working at a government office. Someone burned popcorn in the microwave and the smoke set off the fire alarm. I didn't realize it but everyone else left the floor through the stairs. I was there working when the fire nazi (floor warden) gave me a hard time for not leaving.

I laughed and said "for what - burnt popcorn." Apparently he didn't think that was funny because the company I worked for received a complaint about me.

Yep. Ignoring a Emergency test or otherwise is generally considered a big no-no and frowned upon by most. In our lawsuit crazy world though, it's pretty easy to understand.

Not quite.
There is still a rotten fish smell on my floor, yes the entire floor, for some food that somebody called lunch. It stinks.
Then in another place I worked, the microwave had such a contamination of curry that ant thing that was put in it came out smelling and tasting of curry. It was so bad that I had to throw away a lunch and buy one at the cafe.
Burnt popcorn is mild.

+1000

At my company, there may be disciplinary action over ignoring the fire alarm.

Yep --- I'm actually one of the "guards" (have to wear a dayglo orange vest) for one of the many emergency exits.

We had two professors disregard the last fire drill alarm and instead kept on using the copiers. They were reprimanded. Not to mention the fact they set a bad example to the students.

Ugh. People think they're too #(@* important to watch their popcorn for 2 minutes. At the place my wife used to work, they removed the microwaves after repeated incidents.

My other office microwave peeve: People who reheat seafood.

+1000000

I remember once working temporarily in a lab area where the guy who ran the lab told me about two Vietnamese ladies who worked in the area who heated up stinky raw fish in the microwave often. They ended up putting a sign on the microwave, NO SEAFOOD.

Someone was cooking a nasty frozen dinner in the microwave at lunch today. It smelled like bad cheese.
