Help identify an old PBS kids show...

I recall in grade school (2nd or 3rd grade time frame) they would occasionally bring a TV in to the class room on a cart and we watched a PBS educational kids type show or two. I remember a few different ones like 3-2-1 Contact, Dog and Butterfly, The Alphabet People, etc....

But one we used to watch that I can picture in my head, but I can't remember the name is driving me crazy (has been for months).

It was a sing-a-long type show with a host who looked like a cross between a nerdy engineer and a hippie. He wore flannel shirts, really thick glasses and jeans I think. His name was Tony Callahan. I remember because the show always started out with him on his guitar singing:

Come along and sing a song
Sing a song
Sing a song
Come along and sing a song
With Tony Callahan

But I can't really remember anything else about the show. If I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, then the time frame we're talking about would be 1977 or 1978 time frame probably.

I've tried looking Tony Callahan up on IMDB, but didn't find anything that looked appropriate. I've googled many times and returned nothing that looked right.

Anybody remember this? Sound familiar to ANYBODY?

Yep...many times.

I think it may be so rare that even the internet has forgot it.

I don't "think" it was anything local....the other shows wern't. I believe it was a standard PBS kids show on in the same time frame as the other shows mentioned above.

You might wish to contact PBS themselves. They've been rather helpful when I contacted them in the past.

I suspect it was a local production.

You sure it isn't Fraggle Rock?

I vaguely remember that song. My sister was a huge PBS Kid Show watcher, as was my Kid Brother. He'd be the right age for what you're talking about, and his main show was Fraggle Rock. There'a a good chance that he made an appearance or something on FR (The singer, not my brother....).

Nah...this is pre-Fraggle Rock (83-87 per Wikipedia). And I thought that this guy did the sing-a-long and that was the whole show...but I could be wrong. It could have been a smaller part of another show...in which case it would be even harder to figure out.

Have you tried using Reading Rainbow in the search? This was pretty popular, though I don't recall the song you're thinking of.

It sounds familiar. I was around nine or ten around that time so my days were usually spent getting stoned and hooking up with babes, but I do remember a show like that.

When Napolean gets back in from feeding Tina, tell him I said hi.

That very well could be it. Who knows what names got garbled in the ears of a 7 year old. I'll have to research that a little more. Thanks.

See reply above....I very easily could have garbled the name at that age.

You rock JustCruisin!!

I'm 90% certain that's him.

This page shows the intro lyrics, close to what I was saying (from memory).
http://www.rickstv.com/tvo/letsallsing.html

Let's all sing a song today, a song today, a song today.
Let's all sing a song today with Tony Salatan.
I'll sing a song, and you'll sing too, you'll sing too, you'll sing too.
I'll sing a song and you'll sing too, with Tony Salatan.

He appears to have a small website.
http://www.wgbhalumni.org/people/saletan-tony.html

From his current look, I'm pretty sure that's him. He does look like an older version of the face I remember.

Thanks.
