Our first anniversary. Went back to a romantic French restaurant we'd eaten at before. The daughter of My wife's best friend (who lives in another state) suddenly walked in and asked if she could borrow a chair, and sat down at our table. WOpg is no dummy so she knew right away what was up, but I think the sheer volume of how many of her out of town buddies kept traipsing in finally got her.
We ate a great meal and walked as much as we could stand to in Greenwich Village on a sweltering, muggy June night....the next day we all drove out to LI and spent the day visiting old homes and haunts...it was absolutely gorgeous out, no humidity, we couldn't have had a better time.
We had had a quick no frills sort of reception, town hall wedding; neither of us was the big event type. But I knew she was sad her friends who had moved away weren't there for it. So I started making calls and putting it together a few months after we married.
I'd like to take credit for it but honestly, it was so easy to do....I was touched deeply by how her friends responded when I called out of the blue to ask if they would come for the weekend. No questions, no hemming or hawing. I got yeses all around immediately - that's how tight they are and how much they love my wife. Everyone should have friends like that
