Back when I used one, HandBrake worked pretty well.

I've found HandBrake great for converting DVDs to play on my iPhone.

If you upgrade to 10.5 there's a program called "Time Machine" that's for data backup. Never used it, but it's there.

Mac the Ripper for great extractions that can be naively (MAC) burned back to DVD.
