My wife's grandfather has this saying that drives me bonkers. He says that you can't love an object because it can't love you back. You can't love your car because your car can't love you back, but you can like your car.
So I say, but, if you can't love it because it can't love you back, how can you like it if it can't like you back?
Anyway, I can't decide if he is a genius or just bonkers. Any thoughts on this? Is there anything to it?
He is about 110 years old (okay, 91+) and he says this about 15 times each time we see him. Apparently he's been saying it for the better part of 30 years.
