Ha sucka! Welcome to the adrenaline life.
There's something freakin' awesome about blasting down a tight single track at high speed then slamming on the brakes to do some crazy technical section that is just so much fun.
...Well, i definitely wouldn't call myself civilized, so you can take this explanation with a grain of salt. But, I like being on my MTB over my road bike any day cause it puts me in nature. When i ride my road bike, I'm surrounded by all the things i'm trying to get away from, cars, exhaust, a-holes..whatever. My MTB gets me away from that, into nature. Plus, roadie attitudes suck. Congratulations, your kit matches, mine doesn't..put on your big girl panties and deal with it.Oh, and when i stop to get something to drink and you guys are all hangin out in front of starbucks, noone else gives a **** that you put out 1.21 jigawatts on the ride there.

" The love you withhold is the pain you carry, lifetime after lifetime."
I make no claims of being civilized.

I picked up an average joe hardtail a few years back from the bike mechanic for $50. It was a screaming deal, but I never liked the bike. It was way to heavy, and learning to mtb well into my 30's wasn't something very enjoyable. NR stuck to the fire roads and some of the simpler single track.
My last MTB ride I was screaming down a fire road, and locked up my tires in a turn and went down hard. It hurt. My left crank came off and I had to finish the last ten miles doing unintentional one legged drills. It sucked. Sold the mtb the following week.
