Coffee Thievery

We have a coffee thief at my office! We have a coffee club here that consists of about a dozen people who chip in to maintain a coffee maker and buy the coffee and supplies. We have rules. We make coffee until 10AM and then clean up the coffee station and put everything away.

The past few mornings, I've come into the office to find a half a pot of warm coffee sitting in the decanter, and missing coffee beans. This morning, there was almost a pound of beans missing from the bag from yesterday. There are folks who work in one of the labs here overnight, so we kinda suspect them, but have no proof.

So, what would be a good way to catch these guys?

It's frustrating! Ugh... stealing coffee...

Why don't you just put a sign on the coffee beans that says "Please join the coffee club if you want to use these" ?

Edit: You could set up a webcam or something to take pictures whenever there's movement at the cupboard.

There was a problem at my office with food missing from the lunchroom refrigerator. There is now a large sign posted on the front of it that says "Smile! You're on security camera!" I don't see a camera readily visible, but no food has gone missing since the sign was put up.

We've got signage to that effect, as well as a contact list about joining the club.

We can't use cameras/recording devices because of office privacy issues and security policy.

I think we're just going to put a Lock-out/Tag-out box on the plug of the coffee maker at night

leave some special coffee in there over night.....spike some cheaper coffee with habenero flakes and seeds. He/she will most likely leave you coffee alone from then on.

Just hide the decanter or filter holder at night...

That being said, I provide the creamer for our coffee club. Costs about $10/month to pick up two large containers.

Just hide the coffee and the filter basket (maybe the pot) somewhere that only club members know location of.

This actually sounds like a good way to get fired, not that it doesn't also sound fun as hell.

Sad world out there. I once saw a guy punched for taking anothers food at work and even though it was not my food I still felt a small measure of satisfaction. Karma pays everyone in the end.
