Nobody rides more miles than those ST Freds. Nobody I say. I only ride 3-4K miles annually. I use mine for local errands and the occasional blast down to NY City. Love it. Ride it daily between April and October.

I expect pcad will soon post a denial of this truth. :p

Seriously. I just ride 'em. I don't hang out with other motorcyclists. I just ride old junkers that putt around and are fun to ride.

I hate group rides. I don't like hanging out with other motorcyclists either. They are even more insufferable than other cyclists.

Oh thank god. I was worried you were going to ask if I wanted to ride with you... :innocent:

Another reason to avoid the Harley Tribe. They had a big "event" at a mega-dealership here last weekend. There were so many in attendance, I'm afraid to ride my bicycle anywhere near the place for fear of residual oil on the pavement.

As for not having a windshield...... I was doing 70 on the freeway, in the rain with a faring/shield and while passing a car the sky opened up with hail. I was wearing my openfaced helmet and the hail went around my faring and hit me in the face like I was shot with buckshot. I went from 70 to 35 in the fast lane, and I was all tucked in behind my faring until I found a safe place to go. Man that hurt.

Steven Longing for a Goldwing, none of those over fast speed things. :)

Oh christ, one of those things had a GPS (or maybe it was fishing radar), a satellite radio receiver, a cup holder, and a Camelbak.

But then shortly after there was a picture of two bikes (and their riders) caked with mud up to two feet above the ground. So it evens out, I guess.

Even putting aside the huge safety issue, I don't see how people can ride with open face or WWI German military helmets. I find opening my face shield even a tiny bit at anything more than 40 MPH or so to be completely insufferable, even in pleasant weather.

Some are fun.

Dirt bikers = fun ! :D

Harleys, hit or miss.... If you get 'riders', fun, if you get look-at-me's = embarrassing
Dealer rides, or Darwins revenge runs, are asking for trouble....avoid like unsanitary Mexican Diner

Squidrockets = liking working overtime. I ride for relaxtion. Squidery is just too much like work.
Getting pulled as a group for the obligatory small town porcine/du you have zee paperrrrs check gets
old too.

Scooters= lots of fun ! out partay HD ruffians by a mile. Get drunk, get nekid !
I dont do either of those but the riding part is hilarious, too :)

My HJC Symax modular flip-up is the very definition of a Fred helmet. It is full-face, modular, solid silver color and I have adorned with with reflective tape on all sides. I have to say, though, if you wear glasses, the flip-up helmets sure are handy in terms of getting the glasses on and off.

Squidrocket? Come on, that's not even defined in the urbandictionary.com.

msincredible 04-30-09 07:50 AM

We've already gone over the definition of squid. A lot of squids are found on sportbikes, aka "crotch rockets". He just put them together.

I took my RC51 out on Sunday. I was able to get into my 1 piece leather suit no problem this year too since Ive lost my gut riding my bicycle up and down these hills we have around here.

I have a EXO 400 tribal balck...great bang for the buck

pcad... the ski gloves work better than the electric? i have gerbing G3s and found they work better than my snowshoeing gloves what type of ski gloves do you have?

I have some Harley Davidson winter gloves (unheated) that were so good at keeping my hands warm I used them for snowmobling for many years

I'd check Arctic Cat snowmobile products. They sell very good gear imho. Ive ridden sleds and motorcycles in cold weather with a pair of their bibs/jacket and have been very comfortable. They also have a very good selection of heated and unheated gloves etc.

patentcad 05-01-09 05:26 AM

Why does Harley charge over $30K for a Road King? More puzzling, why does anyone pay that?
