40 miles on the ST today. When you're blasting up the freeway @ 88 mph and it feels like Satan's Blowdryer, it's a hot day. All backroads on the return loop, which was more like 30+ miles. The Orange County backroads are what motorcycling is all about, they're the best. I was using the ST's top secret stowaway highway pegs much of the time today (they hide in the tipover blisters, see photo below, they fold out like batwings). On hot days, that bike would be much harder to ride for a couple of reasons.

What do BF cycle-with-motors riders like for winter and cold weather gear?

Prefer non-electric, budget.

Years ago, I had an Aerostitch Roadcrafter 1pc a size too big so I could layer with an electric vest and wool/synthetics.

If familiar with Aerostitch Riderwearhouse product, what is the not so pricey alternative to a Darien jacket/pants combo, insulated?

Lots of options out there... I've got Teknic Freeway jacket and overpants and while gaudier than Aerostich, they will still get the job done.

If I was buying new winter textile gear, I would just shop the bargain bins online and hope they had my size.

For the not quite so cold, my thicker leather jacket combined with lowers and engine-guard covers (aka elephant ears) plus the windshield. Yes, I have a dresser.

For uber cold, I add a Gerbing liner jacket under the leather, and their heated pants. Toasty!

New to the forum as I'm getting ready to join the cycling community. Looking at cyclocross bikes to begin off season training for my main hobby of motorcycles. Getting tired of my legs burning out halfway thru a trackday session or race. I'm wanting to keep money local, so most likely going with a leftover '13 Bianchi Zurigo the shop has in stock that seems to be the correct size for me. Test riding it on Sat. :-)

Anywho, this is my motorized 2 wheeler. 2008 Ducati 848 that I've had for 2 years now. Triple-duty for street, trackdays, and actually got my CRA novice race license in June on it.

So do you change out all that skins, tank, etc between race and road days? How involved of a process is that? If you do, take a few photos next time you do the transistion from road to track. Would like to see that.

Good luck. I started cycling because I lost my license but I also thought the same, my tighs would burn like hell at trackdays and next day I could barely walk straight. Now I dont do trackdays anymore and I am looking to start racing bicycles instead. Switched hobbies a bit. I still do trackdays just not enough and my goals of racing motorcycles were quickly transformed into road racing bicycles.

Lol, thanks for the welcome.

Yep, I switch out everything and can get it all done in 50 min full track to full street when I'm motivated. Most of the time when I only had a week or two between track events I'd rock a 'half&half' look: put mirrors/turn signals & license plate on, and swap the race tail out with the carbon street one (w/brake lights/integrated rear turns). No headlight or kickstand, so I usually don't go far in this mode. Maybe a 2-3 hours at most since I have to sit on the bike for fuel stops.

Random shot a friend took the day after the ZARS trackday season finale @ BIR. Had no clue it was him until I got home and saw an FB tagged pic with the caption "Fine, don't say hi. Lol"

Just picked up a second set of wheels for my bike so I don't have to swap tires, just wheels. Also will go with better brakes and pads for track. Next step race plastics, and better engine covers.

Bicycle racing definitely limits amount of track days I can do. Specially since I am chasing upgrade points.

Here's my new to me retro standard bike. It's a 2011 Suzuki TU250, still the only one I've ever seen. I paid half the price of a new one,but check the odo:



I added more miles riding home than he put on in 3 years!

This bike looks like an old Triumph or CB, but it's modernized, with fuel injection and such. It feels like a lot of value for a very low price. I'm not out to race or tour, so it suits me just fine. It brings back great memories for me every time I'm out, and draws interest from a lot of the old school riders that had a similar bike back in the day.

That's a very different bike, but probably lots of fun if it suits your riding style. Honda = reliable + value.

Well I was considering a CBR250R when I was looking for my first motorcycle, but then I decided against a brand new one and none were available locally used, so I bought my second choice, an '05 Kawasaki Ninja 250. Which is a total blast to ride. Speaking of which, I think I'll take it out today, it's been a couple of weeks.

Just found this thread! Longtime rider, mostly ducs, presently riding a 13 ducati multistrada GT and 14 MV agusta brutale 800. Just sold my streetfighter.

I do a fair number of track days, mostly at Barber in Birmingham AL a magnificent track.

I ride the MCs all year round for work and do about 20k miles a year.

Just recently gotten into cycling which I really love.
