Darn. I forgot about shells. Yea those would be good. I hate spirals cause they turn into mush. Noodles are good but the sauce never sticks. Shells... +1

If the noodles are turning to mush, you're cooking 'em too long.

actually I think its cause I stired them for like 5 minutes on low heat trying to melt 4 tbs. of butter. I know it says to put in 1 but on the noodles it says 4, so ill take the benefit of the doubt and put in 4. It just takes forever to melt.

Ah. I leave the noodles in the strainer while melting the butter and mixing up the sauce. It seems to work out better that way.

Good idea. Yea I have to get a strainer like that. The one I use looks like this.

BTW. Do you have to run your bowl strainer through the dishwarsher after you strain the water or do you just rinse it, or just put it back after you pour the noodles back in the pan?

I voted spirals, but really it is about the shapes - just about any of them will do (shells, penne, bow-ties, many more I don't know the names for.

Noodles = wrong for macaroni.

Out of all the shapes, shells hold the cheese best. And yes, noodles are terribly wrong for mac and cheese.

Well, after doing a long city meander Saturday - that included two Italian bakeries - one of which had two WALLS stocked full of all sorts of Italian pasta/funky shapes, etc etc (and of course I purchased a few packages of them) - love the sprials and all the other funky noooooodly shapes of pasta versus the everyday noodle (which I assume is the ye olde ELBOW).

I just made "terribly wrong" mac & cheese last night.

It was tasty anyway. Everyone had seconds.

Spirals. Their greater surface area can carry more cheese.
