Thank you cops!

As I was driving home from fire practice, I was pulled over.

Apparently I have a headlight out.

Thank you to the two nice officers who pulled me over. I was terribly confused as to why I was being summoned to the side of the road. I think you picked up on this when I said "Hello. Can I help you?"

Why am I glad? I hate being the guy with the headlight out...so your bringing it to my attention was nice.

Have a great night, ma'ams.

Any of you ever had any nice cop experiences?

Yeah, the last time I was pulled over, this past winter, 67 in a 55 I said I'd really appriciate it if you didn't give me a ticket - he didn't.

Yep, when I was 18 I was driving my Fiero in Michigan UP. I pegged the speedo in 3rd gear, topped out 4th gear, and was about to shift into 5th gear, doing ~110-120 or so, downhill, with a tailwind (seriously).

There was a deer at the bottom of a very long hill, so I started slowing down because slamming on the brakes at that speed would have been a disaster.

A cop came up behind me. He told me he caught me doing 65 in a 45. I said, "ok, sure!" (I was entering an unmanned construction zone. At the time, MI had a 45 mph limit in construction zones and they didn't sign them because it was just understood, unlike MN.)

He asked me what I was doing, and I said driving around for fun instead of staying on campus and drinking. He liked that answer. He asked to see my trunk. Well, the engine is in the back, so when I opened the "trunk" and he saw the engine, he simply said "okay, have a nice day" and walked away.

I figured I got sooooooooo lucky that I haven't sped once or left the right lane since then (about 10 years ago).

I was in AZ one time hanging out with a really cool fooster and got popped the next day on my way to the airport by a camera on a stick.

Boo camera on a stick!

Jalapeños on sticks are better.

Or battered hotdogs.

Holy crap, I haven't had a corn dog in forever.

Yup, I was remodeling a second floor bathroom and spent a HOT dusty day hanging drywall. It had to be over 90 degrees. It was also a few days before school started, and I had to drive past a school at the end of the day. My partner and I where both filthy, sweaty, and smelly, my tool where visable in the back of the car. The police where STRICKLY enforcing the 25 mph speed limit near the school, as they should. They where pulling about every other third car over, I was one of them. The cop looks in, asks for credentials, and asks, "Where you going?" (why do they ask that, it's none of thier business). I'm going home to cool off, was my answer. He tells me that I was going to fast for a school zone, looks at us again, and asks "Is you driving record clean?" Of course I tell him yes. Then he says "Alright, slow down, and have a nice night." He hands me back my stuff and walks away.

3AM, Madison WI

cop: Did you know you were going 50 in a 35 zone?
me: I'm sorry, I'm unfamiliar with the area, and am pretty lost.
cop: I see you're from Minnesota. where are you headed this late at night?
me: I'm from Minnesota, I go to college in Menomonie, was in Milwaukee for a concert, and am supposed to be staying with a friend in Madison.
cop: Let me get you some directions and send you on your way.

Directions, no ticket.

5pm-ish.
Charlotte, NC
I was cruising at around 90mph when I see blue lights. I pull over and before I can get any of my paperwork out, the cop is at the window.

Cop: The speeds limit is 65 not 90
Me: Yes sir
Cop: Slow it down
Me: Ok, thank you.

That was the entire conversation, verbatim.

Edit: Can't count on my hands and toes the amount of times I've been pulled over and I don't think I've ever had a bad experience with a single officer.

This past Saturday:

Me sitting on the side of the road with road rash on every limb, the police officer stopped, asked me if I needed any help, I said "I don't know, my hand kinda hurts", and without any more being said, he called for the ambulance. Yaaaay, can't wait to see what my bill will be. It was awfully courteous for him to do that though. This whole triathlon thing is costing a lot.

There are a lot of speed traps around there. They are getting more popular nowadays as I am starting to see em everywhere. I just think they are pointless to be honest.

My goal is to get the cameras to flash me on my bike.

Oh well, it's just a hassle. A friendly call to the DA or ADA goes a long way.

If I ever get pulled over on the bike and get a ticket, I am going to take a picture of the cop and frame the ticket next to the photo. Seriously.

HA! good idea. According to a friend he was a longboard going down Mt.Lemmon and got pulled over for speeding.

On the other hand I really hate the Tanque Verde and Kolb camera.

That intersection freaks me out literally every time I drive through it. Sadly, it's one of the main ways for me to get into town!

Only if there are pics to prove them...

I would never stop for a local cop any more. What if it's Roy, trying to give back my ex-wife?

During a ride along with a sheriff I was allowed to help with an arrest on a jerk that was beating his girlfriend with a fireplace poker. I had to examine her (I was an EMT) and found injuries in strange places.

She failed to testify in court because her boyfriend loved her.

Words fail me.

But the cop was great, here is his quote.

"If you move funny I will shoot you" While he was holding his taser.

Oh I know! I always go through there too. Since I started racing I always pass like 2 speed traps on the way to Manzanita.

Ugh, that sucks!

I'm picking the camera on Swan...I think I may be able to get it going downhill... Might have to wait for a tailwind!
