Is it lame to mention your mother?

Like:

I was at my mothers house last night.....

My mother told me......

When I got up my mother told me she had breakfast ready.

And so on.

I know there is the 40 year old still at home etc, but what do you first think of when someone mentions their mother?

Just wondering because my mother is coming in in about a month.

Not lame. When my friend and I talk to each other and one of us mentions or talks of our mothers, it's good form to tip or remove any hats at the mention of her. A few words of praise goes a long way too.

I think it's hella cool to mention your mom.

Why not? If someone has an issue with that, they've got.....well, issues.

Several people at my office have elderly mothers. We talk about them all the time.

Before we sold our house that was purchased 20 some-odd years ago (with my ex-husband) - and the fact that I moved upstairs so we could rent my place out and make some money - this little woman gets up at 5:30 am without an alarm clock every day ... and the few days she did not - ----- I tip toed through the apartment and looked at her to look for her breathing - it was sooo out of the ordinary. She laughed when I told her - but hell it was out of the ordinary.

Not lame at all to mention Mom.

Anyone who thinks it's lame has some serious growing up to do, and they are the last opinion you should care about.

Thanks for reminding me to call mine. I called her twice on Mothers Day but never got a hold of her. Now I'm ashamed that I didn't keep trying until I got to talk to her.

Mentioning your own mom is OK. Someone else's mom, not so much.

My mom told me I have to be home early.

My mom said we have to be quiet.

I heard my mom groaning and I almost lost my dinner.

I still don't know how that is lame. But even as a kid my parents told me "stay out late--be social." "You are always quiet--don't you have more to say?" and the only groaning my mom ever did was at my bad jokes.

Is it lame to mention a mother-in-law?

A grown man should not say these things.

Considering I see my mom and mom-in-law more often than my friends these days, they're part of every day conversation. Yes, that says something, but I'm in denial.

lame are the people who are embarrassed to be associated with their parents. anyone who is self conscious about parents and is not a teenager is a dipstick with low self esteem.
